RCZ Resale Value

Hi all!

First post here :)

My wife drives a lovely 2012 Silver RCZ GT (156), and it's been great for the 3 years she's owned it.

It's due a service, and I love cars. I do all the work on the cars in my family myself, and I'd quite like to start doing so with this car too. When she's needed to do it in the past, I'd got it done at Peugeot for the sake of the service stamp and warranty.

So, my question is:

Would doing a service myself (taking photos along the way like I do when I work on my cars) be detrimental to the resale value of my wife's car?

Any sort of input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi there,

Firstly its nice to see people wanting to care for their own cars! so Kudos for that.

Problem is if you plan to sell it in a few years, self servicing is a mine field...even though you will do the work properly if its not a dealer service its going to affect the resale value I am afraid.

shame really as sometime the dealers don't take as good care or pride as an owner does and a owner can actually be better in some cases.

hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry too much about that affecting the resale value of your car. It might make a small difference in price when you come to sell but you will probably already have saved that and more back by doing the work yourself and not paying the main stealers.

If your planning to sell privately, it probably won't make any difference at all to the resale value, it might put a few people off, but you are still likely to get the going price.
If you plan to part-ex, dealers seem to jump on anything they can to offer you a bit less, small things wrong with the car they are selling you are totally insignificant, but if your part-ex has the same problem, it will reduce its value according to them.

If you are using the correct parts, and have the knowledge to do the job correctly, I wouldn't worry.

First off, thank you for the input! It's nice to see an active forum!

I'm not entirely sure what we'll do when it comes to sell (private or part-ex), but I'd rather err on the side of caution and keep all the paperwork Peugeot. Looks like (unfortunately) you guys have confirmed my suspicions - hand the car over to the garage, because a part-ex is entirely possible in the future.

Thank you all once again, a pleasant experience with my first post on the forum.

Hello BB,
My wife too owns a 156. I've looked after it for over a year now. Even have a spare set of winter boots. Plenty of topping up oil comes in handy lol.
We've just gone over the 3 year old mark. I've not took pugs extended warranty out. I've gone with trusted indy servicing at around half the price of a pug main dealer.
Regarding your original question. In my opinion it depends how long your wanting to keep it? 10 years plus. Then I'd service it myself, then at least you know its done right. Otherwise it's mainly down to convenience, may recoup slightly more when you come to part exchange it. Very little between dealer vs indy, providing the book is stamped.
I've worked on cars from the 80's, decided to go on the indy servicing route. As it hasn't really cost me that much more than doing the work myself. I used a trusted mechanic.
A good try at a decent user name
Mine may just be related to my footy club...ka..ka...ka..who...
