Well boys and girls, I have finally pulled the trigger on an RCZ ........................... however.

My spec was very simple, and one I was determined to set rigidly to :- RCZ THP200 GT spec, 1 year old max and sub £16k

So why, oh why have I pulled the trigger on a 6 month old RCZ R, and totally obliterated the budget??

My excuse being my missus, who, while I've been mulling over colour options, and sat nav or no sat nav. noticed a browser open on a silver RCZ R and made the mistake of saying "That looks nice"
Justification enough for me folks.

Pick her up Wednesday.

You are going to love that choice! In case that R is already broken in (way above 5000 miles) the fun will be ever greater!

Thanks.
Yes, although only 6 months old - already done 8k - so well run in.

I'm taking a chance with this one. Its the car used by the manager of the Pug dealer. I have assurances that his right foot is not completely made of Lead - but we will see.

Anything of note worth checking on the final inspection?

One thing I will be checking is the state of the disks.
My current car was also bought new'ish and was also a dealers runaround. Rears disks were badly score'd due to excessive braking before fully broken in - so will be checking this, as its a good indication on how well its been looked after.

Any other advise on things to look for on these RCZ's would be appreciated.

definitely check the alloys for any scuffs, the R alloys will be very expensive to refurbish. I saw a 208 GTi for sale and 2 of the alloys pretty much needed replacing. Tyres too, the R tyres aren't as expensive as the standard ones (due to the car being lighter) but will still pinch when you come to replace them!

I'd definitely be checking the tyre wear on the alloys. They are perfectly allowed to sell the car with as little as 1.5mm of remaining tread but the RCZ can go through front tyres quite quickly if they're not rotated every now and then. I would imagine that the R has a propensity to go through them a lot sooner...depending on how it has been driven.

The alloys are one of those things that I'd always check. If they're damaged in anyway then they have the potential to corrode quite quickly so I'd check for kerbing.

Other than that, I'd just be doing the usual checks to ensure that everything electrical works as it should. There's nothing much aside from that that I'd be particularly cautious about. I look forward to hearing how the handover went and how you're enjoying the first few drives.

Yes, check those front discs properly. The brake pads are very hard, so they eat those discs when pushed very hard.
Tire wear is not bad on the R. Mine has got almost 8000 miles done and the front tyres have still 5mm tread left (only 2mm gone). And I drive like mad with my R.

Check also for loud clonking noise when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. Does occur on some R.

OK folks. Thanks for advice.
Will check the things listed.
Car has done 8k, so I would be real surprised and disappointed if the tyres were about gone, but its a good point and worth checking.
Alloys - yep, fair comment.
Ditto with the disks/pads
Clunk when changing gear - Roger, Roger.
Electrical stuff, will check what I can with my limited knowledge of the car.
As its from a Pug franchise I believe I am covered for 30 days with their "30 Day Fault return policy" and get the "12 months’ Platinum Class Warranty" for what its worth, plus obviously the remaining Manufacturers warranty.
Hopefully I don't need to call on any of these.

Will report back tomorrow or later in the week when time allows.

Adieu.

'R's are great.

We're three days into European tour, including Swiss Alps and Austrian Tirol.

Not missed a beat so far, 47 mpg on long runs, Furka Pass great fun, shame about the Shell station at Andermatt, though.

Car purring like a kitten still, really comfortable (and I suffer from back problems) - just love driving it!

OK, so very early report back after picking her up yesterday.

So the good news and the not so good news.

Alloys - well we had a little discussion about these. On close inspection they had been curbed (3 wheels IIRC) but look to have been repaired. Only noticeable when inspected closely.
There is a minor scuff through the lacquer on the "R" logo and a bit of the adjacent wheel and this needs sorting or corrosion will take over. Will get this looked at.
The driver was obviously the wearer of significant jewelry on his right hand, as the interior door grab handle is scored in places.
Other than that no other issues. Discs looked oK, maybe light scoring on the rears, but nothing significant..
Plenty of wear left in tyres.
No clunk betwixt 1st and 2nd gear - as post above mentioned.

Having said this, the Alloys repairs and small scuff did put the edge off proceedings as they were not mentioned at point of sale. I almost walked away at this point.

What kept me in the sale was the couple of things - the deal was at a really good price for an almost new "R" - taking into my part ex.
Also they failed to mention that it had dealer fit DAB (although I haven't figured how to use this yet), plus new mats, and those mini rear mud flaps. Small points, but anyway - price was really the deciding factor.

Early doors, but drives really well. Like a pussy-cat at low revs, but picks up really quick over 2.5 - 3K rpm.
Ride and handling seems real good, well planted in corner, but too early to test on the limit at this point. Was a new car to me and last part of journey in the dark last night.

Better report and pics to follow.

Really, really loving the choice I made here.
Absolutly stonking car. Future classic IMHO due to its performance with low running costs.
Slight Torque steer on occasion on hard acceleration, similarity occasional Turbo lag, but nothing significant of greatly off-putting.
Its put the joy back into motoring for me.

Not quite a bootie - but this is all I have thus far.
