RCZ R disappointed

Thought it was about time to trade my Z in and go for the R
After visiting the dealer I was left really disappointed in the spec of the R

No front sensors, no heated seats and the same useless sat nav !
At £32k I would of thought It would have the same spec as I have now with additions or at least an improvement on the sat / media system but no !
So I don't think I will bother with it, not for just an extra 70 bhp

To be honest, I think that a lot of what you mentioned is deliberately absent in order to save weight in the car. It's 17kg lighter. I understand what you're saying but, personally, I think that their worth the compromise.

It's worth keeping in mind that the R is falling in price quite quickly and you can pick up excellent examples well below the advertised price!

I do agree with you on the weight issue, but let's be honest
, unless your going to take it to a race track every week or run the risk of maxing your points out on your driving licence I think for the weight of two heaters and a couple of sensors I don't think it would of been an issue, but I'm sure I will be proved wrong.

I do think at 32k it is over priced for what it is after all your in the Audi price range then, will see how the pricei drops over the year, failing that the Carbon spec is a better deal I think.

It looks like to me you're a customer looking rather for the "envelope" than for the "ingredients". Coming from this corner I can somehow understand your disappointment in the R.
Comparing the R to an everyday TT is not fair. The R shines in the "ingredients" area where the Audi for many (not me) shines in the "envelope" area.
You will not find proper brakes on an TT. Or a well set up suspension that also works beyond 120mph without scaring the life out of you. The steering in the TT will not please you when pushing the car on B roads. And so on, and so on.
Maybe the TT will impress more in front of a pub but honestly, the R is such a show-off car there are days I wish it'd invisible. Girls literally jump into the car, no BS.

Each one of us has to make up their minds what is really important in cars, what makes you go whooaaa. I always tend to look behind the curtain and appreciate great engineering applied with a solely purpose. That is what I found in the R, by the way my very first Peugeot :)

I'm not completely in disagreement with you merchant. There are other compromises/weight saving measures. I don't think that it has auto dipping wing mirrors for example. Ultimately, most of us aren't going to be taking our cars out into the tracks and certainly not terribly regularly if we are. However, I suppose the argument would be that it benefits overall handling across all speeds but is this really noticeable? I don't know is the honest answer.

I agree that the advertised price is expensive but, in all honesty, I think that for the RCZs (and many other cars besides), particularly from the GT spec upwards to the R. We know this is unlikely to be the "true price" unless you're rather lacking in the powers of haggling or not bothered about paying such a price but lets just say that I think it's ambitiously priced.

Yes you can but you would be a second owner or you can buy new from the factory at £25,643 for a white one with 5 miles on the clock

If this is going to be your 4th Z then you won't need front parking sensors because you should be well aware of the front bumper when parking it by now and a seat heater is only good on a cold morning but let's face it it's not a deal breaker. There are a couple of R's going for sub 25k - now that's a deal breaker!!

I would die without the seat heater. When it's -20 degrees in the morning you kinda want one :(

Agreed but at 32k I would expect everything else I have plus a little more, granted I would gain an extra 70 bhp and a big spoiler but as said before we all look for different things when buying a car, I wouldn't compare the RCZ to the TT as I think the Z is far better in looks but if I had 32K to spend on a car would I buy a RCZ Knowing what it lacks for me ? Perhaps I would buy a used BMW or Merc with extras. Just my opinion :)

A nearly new car with a few miles on the clock is still fairly new and plenty of warranty left if anything was to go wrong and all for 6 or 7k less than new! You certainly have something to think about!!

Hi all' :greetings-wavingblue: ...an interesting post ! In my humble Forum back bencher opinion, like others have said it all depends on what you are looking for in the car you buy. The RCZ and the RCZ-R are two distinctly different cars albeit they share the same body. One is made to be a sports coupe and the "R" is made to be more a 'sports car' variant.

Sports Coupes often have luxurious features to woo the purchaser who is buying it primarily for the overall style whereas in a true Sports Car the luxurious items are superfluous to speed and handling are often removed. ,,In the most extreme cases that includes things such as air con, stereo system and even carpets. Its a case of how pure the sports car is designed to be.

If you want the luxuries then you need to go for the top spec in that variant of the range and if you primarily want sports performance (with what should include intrusive engine noise etc) then you go for the purer sports car variant i.e the "R".

Neither is better than the other they are simply two streams of the same vehicle, the "R" should not be viewed as being the top spec BECAUSE it is simply a different Spec ! Hence Peugeot feels able to price the "R" in their now perceived SPORTS CAR price band that is way above that of their SPORTS COUPE banding of course.

The important thing is to know what you want and not let a salesperson bamboozle and sell you something you don't truly want or need !
The latter iv'e witnessed when the salesperson attempts to sell an elderly couple the M sport when then had entered the dealership simply wanting a conservatively engined mid-ranged model wanting comfort NOT outright performance but due to the couples bank balance and misplaced trust the unscrupulous salesperson feels lucky ,,know what i mean!! :eusa-think:

.the big blue (,,,hey don't shoot the self appointed messenger as i didn't remove the seat heaters & parking sensors etc)

This is often overlooked / mis-understood by the majority of people who are just interested in the "goodies / comfort".

My old VX220 was a prime example.
From the outside everyone that saw it enthused about it.
Once they'd have a look on the inside, very different story / opinion.

Not too sure that the R is "Sports Car" enough for the difference.
I would certainly want all the "goodies / comfort" and the question then is am I happy to pay the extra for a little bit more BHP ??
When I was looking for a replacement car, the answer to the above was no.

Each to their own though and, as has been said many times, it depends what you want to do with / use if for that will determine what you spend your money on.

Enjoy - whatever the outcome is

Another example: the new Alpha Romeo 4C. Gorgeous looks (headlamps questionable), mid-engined, carbon fibre chassis. £45k, very small 'boot', bit of a spartan interior.

You pats your money and you takes your choice.
