RCZ GT (200) RPM/Noise?

Hi guys, new to the forum as I'm very close to purchasing an RCZ, 200HP obviously. One question I do have though, whats the RPM at certain speeds and how quiet is it?

Might seem like a silly question but my current car (2010 Ford Fiesta ZS) sits at very high revs and is quite noisy on the motorways, and I don't really want to be upgrading my car to have the same constant noise when cruising at certain speeds. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere and in all of the reviews that I have read/watched, no one seems to touch this subject.

Thanks.

The THP 200 revs also more on the higher side at a given speed.

I don't know if the British GT version has the so-called sound generator. If so, it's more on the louder side at higher revs.

But you can switch that thing of if you think it's too loud.

I've posted a little HowTo about how it's done.

Also, the THP200 engine is under much less strain at lets say a constant 140kph, so even though the RPMS are relatively high, the engine never sounds strained.

I think you will also find that the sound deadening insulation has a lot to do with it as well ,motorway noise could be down to surface and tyres etc?
Sounds a classic case of make sure you have a good test drive

70 mph it's at 3000 RPM.

Basically you don't hear anything from the engine when cruising. It's revs a lot but it's still quiet. Most of what you can hear is just tire noise.

I was also surprised by this exact same thing when buying my RCZ, only i found out about it on the way home from the dealer

The revs doesn't really matter but the tire noise is quite bad if i may say so myself. But that seems to be a lot down to the design of the tires. The Continentals that come standard with the RCZ make a lot of noise. If i keep the car long enough to have to buy new tires i'm buying a set of the Goodyear Eagle F1's that's on the RCZ R as they are supposedly quieter.

On the up side, cruising at 130kph in 6th, you almost never need to drop a gear to pull a hero overtake :)

As others have said the engine is smooth and quiet when cruising albeit at higher revs than you might expect. The sound enhancement feature is really only audible when accelerating (which I don't mind it at all). It has brilliant power delivery and as Max says you get good acceleration for overtaking even in sixth gear. However the car is quite noisy at speed and this is entirely down to road / tyre noise. How much is down to the tyres alone I'm not sure but I am another one that will be getting rid of the Continentals as soon as they are in need of replacement. Other brands have much quieter noise ratings.

Thank you all for your replies! I've just come back from a Test Drive and I have to say you are all spot on, high revs but still quiet when cruising, the sound box when accelerating is awesome - sounds like a real super car.

Anyway, I put a deposit on the car and hopefully picking it up on Friday! I can't wait! Thanks again for everyones input.

I look forward to sharing many RCZ memories with fellow enthusiasts like yourselves!

Most certainly, I'll give her a good clean and machine polish on Friday/Saturday and then post some pictures! It's a high spec RCZ and has the vision pack... I think I will want to change the bulbs to LED's but after reading some posts on the forum - I think it's confused me even more. Does the RCZ have DRL's AND Sidelights or are they treated the same? Also, which LED bulb fitments do I need for them?

Thanks.

The DRL's are twin filament and so the OEM DRL's are brighter for side lights and obviously dimmer when being used as DRL's in daylight. The problem with most if not all the LED replacements, this dual function fails to work. LED's tend to be more problematical and for that reason I took mine out and returned to OEM bulbs

So what tends to happen when the LED's are in? All the same brightness? I'd love to stick the the originals but I hate that yellow lol.

I found with some cheap LEDs I had, there was an error in the diagnostic menu. No lights came up on the dash though. But I have more expensive ones now, and there are no errors. Mine also stay the same brightness whether the headlights are on or not.

I bought them off a member of the forum who bought them from RCZ Performance.

Sometimes one side will work, then maybe the opposite side, perhaps they might both work. They will remain dimly lit for a short while after the light have been turned off. They don't dim when the headlights are turned on (and so become illegal) Too much bother/hassle for pure aesthetics in my opinion. After all you don't see the yellowish OEM DRL's :D

Do you have any idea what they're called? I might buy some :)

Oh right, a lot of problems then. Maybe that's the cheap version like Abz said? I guess you have a point that the driver doesn't see the DRL's, but I just couldn't live with it when I do see them (shop windows, rears of cars in traffic etc).

I believe they are these ones.

They also do a 92 LED bulb.

Ah! I was looking at those earlier... I'm tempted to go for the 92's but they must be brighter than the 60's, what's the brightness like on the 60's? Good enough? & do you have the Bi-Xenons? If so, do they make the dipped beam look yellowish? Sorry for all of the questions...

No problem at all. The 92s would be brighter, but Im not sure how much brighter. I have the non vision pack headlights, but I have fitted HIDs.
This is what the DRLs look like in the dark. They match my HIDs perfectly, but I dont have a picture of that.

Looking good man. I will probably go for the 92 LEDs, the RCZ I'm getting has vision pack but I have got the upgraded HIDs (8000k) for Bi-Xenon headlights coming through the post soon. On my current car, Fiesta ZS, I upgraded to HIDs and had LED sidelights and they matched perfectly, was only an 8 or 16 LED bulb though.

Thanks for your help, Abz.
