Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm currently driving a 58 plate 206 hdi shed that is about to fail its MOT in spectacular fashion, which is just the excuse I need to finally get an RCZ. I've not got a huge budget, I'm thinking I can push to maybe £7k as an absolute limit. Can anyone offer me any advice on what to look for and how to avoid an absolute money pit. I'm looking at the 1.6 over the 2.0 due to my personal financial constraints/running costs. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
TIA.
Rick.

Hi Rick and welcome to the forum, you say you are looking for a 1.6 petrol rather than a 2ltr Hdi.
The 1.6 are known to have issues with the hpfp and repair or replace can be costly approx £500 more or less, road tax is more than the Hdi also the Hdi is a known bullet proof engine and very economical... Standard 1.6 is 156bhp and the diesel 2.ltr is 163 bhp....
Look for good service history
Look for damage to the jacking points.
Look at the middle brake light for LEDs out can be costly too.
You have a good bit of cash for you to find your perfect RCZ... Happy hunting..

There is a guy on eBay refurbishing the HPFP. It's less than £150 exchange.

I'm running a refurbished pump in my R and it's all good.

I wouldn't have a diesel anything. Let alone a sports coupe like an RCZ but each to their own I guess! 😁

Hi Les,
Thanks for the response. I was actually looking at the 1.6 Deisel for the bullet proof reason you mentioned. We've got a 1.6 Deisel 308 estate as the family car and it's a great engine.

All the Petrol engines are 1.6, even the R. There is only one diesel variant, that’s the 2.0.

The MK1 ran from 2010 to 2013. MKII from 2013.
The MK1 was known for timing chain tensioner issue, but almost all should have had this replaced by now. But worth checking if you chose this model.
The RCZ R ran from 2014 by far the best variant, but is known for VERY expensive brake replacements when required.
The HPFP on all the Petrol versions has been known to be problematic, but as far as I know, once replaced seems to be OK.

Good luck with your search, there are some very knowledgeable members on here that will be very happy to help with any questions, but try the search function first as almost all problems have already been covered at some point.
