RCZ 1.6 THP engine failure

My wife's a nurse having saved and traded in a trusty 207 for a RCZ, she became the proud owner off one last year purchased from a dealer in Bexhill it promptly backfired and broke down after 90minutes . Since then the cars spent approx four months at the dealers. Misfiring on number one cylinder. Under warranty they tried a chemical clean re programmed the car? Or just reset everything! It seemed fine, then it started to misfire again stripped cleaned the head. All seemed fine for a week or so miss firing on number one cylinder. Not sure whether they tested the high pressure pump but that's what the fault code said so they replaced it. I didn't drive it but my wife increasingly complained about the amount of petrol it was using. She had used the higher octane grade at times. I drove it a few months ago and noticed a dead spot and once again it was rough in low gears back to square one. A few month's later a injector failed and I bet you can't guess the cylinder? Peugeot now want £800 to fix the number injector on number one cylinder because they removed the others they need resealing. 1.6 THP ed6 156 bhp it's a joke she couldn't keep up with my old SXI 1.2 we've never had anything like the performance or economy. Lost faith in Peugeot wife's beside herself it's got to go

Sorry to hear this - you must be well pissed off. I know I would be! Did the car have a lot of miles on it when you got it or many previous owners? I guess all car brands produce the odd duff one but that's little consolation if it's the one you have bought. :(

I've got a 156 and let me assure you the thing is rapid - there's not much can keep pace with it on the road so for a 1.2 to be quicker you know there something seriously amiss!

Got to say if I had bought it and it broke down after an hour and half of leaving the garage I would be going back with a view to a full return and refund though, not repair because I would have zero faith in the car in the future.

Hope you can somehow sort it.

I take it they replaced the coils, as I know this is a more common problem causing some of the issues you seem to have had.

I would certainly be writing a strongly worded (but civil) letter to Peugeot, documenting all the faults, periods between, dates into dealership etc etc and requesting they do the repairs foc as this is clearly an issue that started under warranty, was never satisfactorily resolved, and should therefore still be covered. You sound like you don't have anything to lose, the worst thing that can happen is that they say no, and then you can inform them you are going down the "sale of goods act" (small claims court) unless they come up with a solution.

I really hope you get this sorted. I know you will probably never have any real faith in the car again, and it might be a good idea to sell it as soon as it's working properly, but it's such a shame, as the RCZ is an awesome car, but you seem to have dropped on one of the Friday afternoon models.

Good luck, keep us posted how you get on.

The car had only covered 26000 miles when we purchased it and one previous owner whom purchased it new from The same garage. Ironically it's the first RCZ shown as sold on their site at Hastings. I think they will riddle out of it, it's unfortunate as the 08 207 we traded in had a temp switch fail and a spider living in the mirror (mentioned for completeness) I've contacted customer service and whilst they appear to have overhauled there approach to complaints ie not as dehumanised. I don't hold out to hope the garage won't admit error I can only hope they agree it was an intermittent fault. Shame as pound for pound the rcz beats the TT in every respect. I don't think any manufacture is without its problems, however my wife works hard for her money just as hard as the Peugeot technicians. present mileage is 32000 I wouldn't dare chance a coast run took it to Doncaster once 30mins away. The coils are okay at the moment,I'll keep you posted http://youtu.be/2Hn32joools this is the actual car not much of an endorsement

Sorry to hear of your wife’s plight, I had a similar experience with my RCZ as my post “Walnut Shell Blasting” covers, the car never ran properly and no one could seem to fix it. It was a shame as I loved the looks of the car, the ride and creature comforts although I have to say performance was never a strong point but then I had moved from a car with 240 Horsepower but I would have still expected a little better from the RCZ. Covering around 35k miles per year and losing confidence in the RCZ after 4 months I decided to cut my loses and sell, I bought a CLS which is older has more miles on the clock but I have never looked back.
I am sure that we have both been unlucky and ended up buying a “Friday” car as lots of owners have not had any trouble, I wish you luck and hope you get it sorted as its frustrating having lovely looking car that you can’t use.

Peugeot have come through and offered a full reimbursement the garage have always done their best, the injector as made quiet a difference and although a new GTC 2.0 diesel my car couldn't match the acceleration nor handling. I've always liked the look of the RCZ and I think you couldn't go much quicker in as much style for the price. I hope her confidence grows,as against my better judgement she's thinking of holding on to it. I suppose it could be argued that there isn't much left to go wrong with it and truth be known it does make me smile at times :?:

Well, that's good news.

Really feel for you. I'm on my 2nd now - GT200, followed by R.

I've not had significant problems and those minor niggles have been speedily resolved.
