Rattling timing chain whilst cold

Have recently dropped my 156 GT back to the second hand dealership I bought it from for them to resolve this issue. Peugeot main dealer said it's most likely the oil fed timing belt tensioner that requires replacing.

Anyone had any experience of this inhe past? The main dealer said it would probably cost £500-600 for them to do it and I'm a bit worried that the dealership I bought the car from will cut a corner, or won't have the knowledge required to deal with it properly.

If your not happy as to whether they know what they are doing, why don't you take the car to a main Peugeot dealer?

How old is the car too as it could be covered under warranty?

Id look into getting some extended warranty. A full timing chain replacement will cost north of £600.

Its common fault on these engines and the same issues the BMW's and Citreon owners with the 1.6 Turbo face so it is a known problem and not THAT hard to fix. it is time intensive though like many things timing related and thats where your money goes.

I've presumed it's outside of the manufacturers warranty and would rather have it done for free by the second hand dealer I bought it from than pay a main dealer. It's a 2010 plate so 4 years old. The warranty is for 3 years right?

I hadn't thought about taking out an extended warranty, good suggestion, anyone know the costs for that? And can I do it if the original warranty has already expired?

Yeah the car is outside of its warranty now but if you search on the forum you will find posts where people have bought an extended warranty.

If you bought it second hand from Peugeot it will have 12 months full cover as its under 5 years old and under 50k miles

if its from a used car lot then your warranty claim will depend on the garage
