RAF to RCZ !!!

Hi everyone, my names Dave and I am a retired RAF pilot. I was in the service 29 years flying various types including Hunters and Vulcans. Always been a 'Petrolhead' and owned a succession of fast cars over the years, but since retirement have been involved more in classics and 'interesting' cars such as my 1970 prototype AF Spyder made for F1 boss Colin Crabbe, and driven by the late great Ronnie Peterson (killed at Monza) and my everyday car a red X Type Jaguar 2.5 specially made for Michael Owen the Football legend, bearing his signature lazer etched on the dash, and other personalization.
Recently, I visited my local Peugeot dealer Swansway Chester, to take delivery of a new 2008 Crossover for my partner Tanya,
and whilst there saw a Mercury grey RCZ GT in the showroom. My initial impression overall was of a beautifully designed car
both inside and out, but it was a shame that someone had DROPPED A LOG ON THE ROOF ! However, the car had hooked me, and several phone calls to the dealership later and only yesterday, I placed an order for a Mercury grey RCZ GT !
I hope that Forum members will be able to reassure me that I have spent the remainder of my retirement savings wisely on a good car, which if looked after will be relatively trouble free ? Hope that I have not bored you all, and hope to hear from a few of you. I am on the Wirral in Cheshire.

Welcome along!! :greetings-wavingblue: You are not alone on this forum. I have discovered several forum members with backgrounds in the Military/Air Force and even Emergency Services, so I like to think the RCZ certainly attracts that sort of driver

Tell us more about the RCZ? Is it diesel or petrol? Also, post some pics when you get a chance!!

:greetings-wavingblue: Welcome :text-welcomewave:

I know there are a few ex servicemen on here, and also Emergency Services (I'm ex Fire service).

You will have experienced some extreme flying & driving in your time, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised by your new Z :eusa-think:

Hi again Everyone, and many thanks to those who have taken the trouble to bid me welcome to the Forum. I will certainly oblige with pics of the RCZ once I have taken delivery, but as yet I dont even have a date of when it will arrive at the dealership ! Apparently my car is one of the last remaining unregistered vehicles in the system with the spec I wanted, and I was told that it would take up to two weeks before delivery. (As you probably know the RCZ is to be killed off from production this year, or so the dealership informed me) The MD was also of the opinion that the RCZ would steadily appreciate in value
after the model is officially discontinued, and would soon be accepted as a modern classic ! (Which of course, in my opinion it is) Hope that everyone is having a great weekend, and will keep you posted as I get news of my RCZ. Cheers, Dave.

Wow...what a truly astonishing history of aircraft and automobiles. I'd love to see some photos of either/both of these!

You're definitely not going to regret your decision. At one time we had a number of former RAF personnel as owner members. They were delighted with them as I am sure that you will be.

Hi, and many thanks for the encouragement and friendly words from our Moderator Mrizzle. I will sort out some photos and
info on my other cars and attempt to post them on here over the next couple of days. In the meantime for anyone interested
if you go on to UTube, and type BRIMSTAGE HALL RALLY into the search box, you will find a short film of the recent 1940s event held at the Hall, and an interview with me telling a reporter from Bay Television Liverpool about my unique AF Spyder
and showing the car. Best wishes, Dave.

Many thanks 2Retro for your technical expertise in posting the Brimstage film onto the thread, all I need to do now is work out the easiest way to transfer/post jpeg images from my computer hard drive ! Best wishes, Dave.

Or, if you just re-size any photo down to below 256kb you can upload it directly using the upload attachment button below

(I use an app on my iPad called autoresize, it does the job very simply)

You could use Tapatalk app from a smart phone or Tablet to post photos. Or use Photobucket or other photo host (which also has a smart phone app). Tapatalk is by far the easiest way to post photos.

Hello again to all those proffering technical assistance with uploading jpeg images onto the thread. Can I please make clear that I use a digital camera to take the photos, and then transfer them from the cameras memory card onto the hard drive of my home computer. So what I need is you to give me an idiot proof guide to resizing the images stored on my computer in order that the file size is not to large to be accepted by this forum for upload. Therefore Tapatalk is I assume of no help to me
as that is only a Smart phone or tablet app ? Sorry to struggle over this, I could teach you to fly a RAF Typhoon, but find this
stuff a bit of a puzzle. :? Best wishes, Dave.

I would gladly swap you flying lessons for computer lessons any day

I have flown a Cessna & a Roberts Helicopter, but sadly only 1 hour in each & I lived every minute :eusa-think:
