Question about fuel

Hi everyone, new to the forum. :greetings-wavingblue:
I'm in the process of buying a 2010 1.6 THP GT RCZ. When I was test driving a 2.0 diesel one from another dealer, he mentioned that the 1.6 petrol one I was considering runs on super unleaded. Now there's not many places around me that does that so I'm wondering will it run on normal unleaded.
Anybody have this same problem?

I ve never used uleaded but i ve never heard of that again

Not from my dealer, not from the book so i think it runs Just fine

Normal unleaded is absolutely fine - it's what the standard petrol RCZ runs on. I do very occasionally put super unleaded in mine or mix it with regular unleaded but 99% of the time I just use regular. :thumbup:

Glad to hear that 2retro cos that's what I intended doing same as I've always done about every sixth fill up put super unleaded in as I was told it helps keep injectors clean.

Was just talking to one of the mechanics as well and they were saying it's ok for normal unleaded, occasionally I'll probably do what you do 2retro just to clean the engine out

It got a full tank of shell vpower unleaded earlier.

Once upon a time ...
There was five star rated petrol.
It was not on every forecourt.
Many high performance engines needed it or they would "pink" and eventually wear quicker if lower octane was continuously used.
I know, because, in 1967, I was fortunate enough to own a Mk I Lotus Cortina, and all Lotus twin cam engines ran on five star.
The nearest petrol station with five star was a National Benzole, and the attendants quickly got to know me.
It was also more expensive! :thumbdown:

I’ve only ever put Shell V Power Nitro Super Unleaded in mine, & I also put half a bottle of Red X Petrol treatment in every full tank.

If you are using normal unleaded, you could always use Red X as a supplement in between the occasional fill up with Super Unleaded.

I don’t think there will be any problems using Unleaded, I just prefer to use the higher Octain stuff, cleaner burn, bit more power my car deserves it :thumbup:

Normal grade is fine, but super will bring some benefits. Had my RCZ running for 50k miles just on super and never had any problems. In fact, for those not convinced about the benefits of the super, just check the gain when tests are made for tunning. In real life, the lower torque allows for quick shifting, and as many suggested, some Redex would be a plus, but to be honest, never used, as the super (Shell V-Power) already has cleaning agents, and for 50k miles, they were enough. Running on regular wouldn't be bad, but them I would suggest some Redex just to make sure your engine is kept clean. Spend a pound to save hundreds.

I usually get 420ish a tank. Mines a 200 petrol. Driven, erm enthusiastically.

Mine usually reports @ 325 after filling, but I’ve found that to be quite inaccurate, as the other day, setting off to Meadowhall Sheffield, it read 27 miles left in the tank, which is about the distance I am from Meadowhall, so I was concerned about getting there.

I drove to Meadowhall, and back, and on arriving home, I apparently then had 35 miles left !!!! I said, if we had driven to London, I might have had a full tank by the time I arrived :lol:

Ha Ha I also am finding the indicator inaccurate at times ? Ive been taking a note of the mileage at fill up and then again at the next and its been out by 30-40 miles on half a tank using super-unleaded, this costs me £35 and lasts me 3 weeks roughly 75 miles per week.
All short journeys apart from one long run I take her at the weekend (usually to loch Lomond) by what members are saying I think this is pretty normal.

Yes I stand corrected there bit of brain freeze! ops however it will help keep the exhaust valve side clean. :thumbup:

Considering that the combustion happens almost completelly with higher grade fuel, the residues generated will be less, so the carbon build will take longer to become a problem.

The difference is immaterial, intake coking on DI engines is a more serious issue and fuel can't help with that.
