Quad exhaust tips

Anyone on here any good at welding exhaust pipe??

Especially if you live near by.

I want to build a zunsport type quad system.

Anyone able to help?

Right......for the last week I have been busy in the garden shed.

First I tidied up a little so I would have room to work.
Then I sourced the materials, which included

1) 60 x 40 x 2mm box section 2m long cost £36
2) 100 x 50 x 2mm box section cost Free
3) 25 x 3mm sheet strip 1m long cost £8
4) 200 x 200 x 3mm sheet strip cost £7

All in Stainless.

Also bought holesaws 51mm & 57mm and the arbour Cost £13.73

Got cutting and came out with this.

Welding done by my Dad as he had a dozen 316L MMA rods (he's not got any left now!!!)

Did you have any trouble hanging it? Did you make your own brackets? Did you make a template from the left of the diffuser & flip it for the right? Are both sides connected up, or is the right a dummy?

I bought a zunsport exhaust pipe from ebay, but not all the parts were there, so using box section I created my own design similar to the zunsport one.
I was able to take key measurements from the zunsport one and incorporate it into my final design/manufacture.
The brackets were made and 2 slotted holes made in each bracket and fitted on to existing lower bolts that hold up the metal bumper bar at the back of the car (same as zunsport).
The passenger side bracket, box section were made first (the height of the pipes from the back box are lower than the exhaust trims) so needed to use taller box section for this part only.
Then cut the box section for the trims on drivers side.
Using the zunsport as a template I could then position out the 2 box sections to work out the angle and height of the crossover tube.
This was done by cutting out from a centreline 22.5 degs either side (which happened to be 22.5mm) and only cutting 3 sides of the box section, then bending at that point which ment that only 3 sides needed welding.
The angle to the trim box section is 45 deg.
The trim box sections are parallel although at different heights due to different sized box section used.
The trim box section has a hole cut in the top for the crossover tube.
So the trims on the drivers side (right hand side when viewing above photos) also get exhaust gasses, the right hand pipe from the back box comes into the trim box section it then hits a deflector plate which pushes the exhaust gasses into the crossover tube.
The valance on the left side had to be cut larger (due to the trims) a pattern was then made and flipped over for the right side, using a pad saw (the ones to cut through plasterboard without making a hole first).

The conversion kit is so cheap, i really dont see the point of all that hassle im afraid.£300 or so :wtf:

Well its a thing of getting something everyone can get, or use your imagination and make something bespoke.
I prefer something individual.

A copy is identical to the original.
Since there isn't an exhaust system out there for the rcz from new with those tips you have to create one yourself (or get someone to do it for you).
If money was no object then I might get someone else to do it.

It's like everything ...... Each to their own.

As I've been looking into this for nigh on 2 years, I've had a long time to think about it. Not something that I rushed into.

As with all things, there are those that can only buy off the shelf, there are those that are happy to buy off the shelf, there are those that will on occasion buy off the shelf, and there are those who wouldn't dream of buying anything that they are capeable of doing themselves.

Personally, I don't mind buying a ready made product, if I think it's either better than anything I could manage myself, or if it's something I know I'm incapeable of making.

But there is little more satisfying than seeing something you have crafted with your own hands do exactly what you intended when you started.

If I ever get round to getting my beloved quads, they will probably be shop bought, and fitted at a garage. It's something I have never attempted, something I don't really have the equipment for, and something I'm pretty sure would end up looking worse by my hands than by a professional, especially as if I was paying for the service, I could complain until it was done to my satisfaction.

However, I applaud tremendously the work done, and final product achieved by Chris, and I know he will give those four tail pipes a little glance every time he goes out to his car, and a little smile will appear, and rightly so

My Z is a fantastic looking thing, but I'm afraid my wife beats it hands down.
