A government bill has been proposed which contains a very worrying “Tackling Tampering” section buried within and was unnoticed by many until the official response was closed.

This legislation threatens to destroy a huge market in the UK employing hundreds of thousands of people; it is ill thought out with a huge spectrum of adverse affects.

A petition has been started to fight this legislation so, if you think you should be allowed to fit aftermarket wheels, radio, repair parts etc, please sign up and please pass this information along to any like minded people and forums you know

A similar legal restriction has been in place here in Spain for some years.
The effect is to give a huge advantage to the car manufacturers, because accessories or modifications provided by them are all homologated (tested approved) so may be used.
You take a risk of, at best, a fixed penalty fine if you cannot show a homologation certificate on an after market item.
Anecdotally, our neighbours' son has tinted (film) side and rear windows on a modest Megane, and has been stopped several times to prove the tints are legit.
He obtained them from a Renault agent which included the cert.
