Driving home from work yesterday and my EML came on saying engine fault repair needed. Scanned and it gave code p1336 crank cam sensor and another I cant remember which pointed to cylinder 1 misfire. Looked it up on here and a few have managed to get away with the spark plug and coil change but I have no such luck. Compression test showed 3 of my cylinders working 100% and the same 3 of my 4 sparks were all bone dry and one was soaking wet. My mechanic friend said its likely a blown valve and a very awkward and expensive job. Cant believe I am having all these issues on a car that's only covered 29k. Every mechanic Iv spoken to have basically sniggered and said " That's Peugeot for ya"

Took it to Bristol St motors up here in Sunderland and they have booked me in for a diagnostic on the 31st August ( £126 ) to tell me what I already know but so they can then give me a price to have my pants pulled down. Does anyone on here know of any reputable garages or mechanics in the North east / Yorkshire that are able to repair this at non dealer prices?

Any garage that is conversant with the prince engines like a mini specialist or good local indie repair shop etc
As for a blown valve never heard of that happening they only bend on impact?
I think you may have a a possible timing/ fuel air ratio/ ignition problem as per crank sensor code P1336 & this is usually associated with the cam sensor as they need to be configured together for the engine to be timed correctly if these are out of sync it may cause multiple misfires

Thanks for the reply Pedro. I can only hope Peugeot can repair after they diagnose. Im loving the RCZ but not the spends that come with it.

Quick update and its not good news. After waiting 3 weeks for an appointment I booked my rcz in and the outcome is Oil in my catalytic converter, melted piston in cylinder 1, fuel air ratio all cocked up and back pressure. Mechanic has advised a new engine or an engine rebuild both are gonna be costly jobs. 😭

Remap-Timing out or possibly oil pressure/ pump failure issues?

agree....my pure speculation.....running lean.......from bad AFR set-up or an LSPI issue etc..,,,especially in a direct injection engine. Be interesting to see what the plugs are like.....premium fuel used after the remap?

Yes its a can of worms getting to the root causes but remaps can & will put extra strains on engines that could have maybe underlying mechanical issues waiting to occur especially in mid range to older high mileage ones but timing is critical to the functionality of a ECU controlled system even if it goes wrong the car will still run at reduced power but it can cause serious damage to the internals like overheated components & as Flanner's rightly pointed out running lean will definitely burn the valves etc if the issue is not corrected

Yeah I used premium fuel after the remap, when I checked the plugs they were all ok except for the one nearest the gearbox (cylinder1).
below is what the garage have sent me today.

Compression test shows low compression on number 1 cylinder. (Gearbox end)
Engine has back pressure.
Has all the symptoms of piston and / or piston ring failure. Possible melted piston.

That's bad luck to go through that experience the main causes of a piston melting is excessive heat due to pre ignition or detonation which goes back to what Flanner's rightly posted as the fuel air ratio is out of sync which can mean instead of the fuel igniting from the spark plug firing it ignites spontaneously like diesel engines which can be the death sentence of a piston under enormous heat & cylinder pressure
