Pre Polish & waxing

Have looked at discussions on detailingworld but I find myself quickly becoming lost by the range of products and what they all (claim) to do!!!

I get quickly baffled by it all too, if I'm honest.

When James from PD came to look the car over before he detailed it, he went through our CRATES of products and told us what to keep and get rid of :) So at least the stuff I'm using still is recommended. I grudge buying new products just because, when I've got half full bottles still to use.

I was tempted to go out to Polished Bliss, but I know the credit card couldn't handle the hammering.

I'm glad it's not just me then!! I took a trip out to Polished Bliss not long after buying the car but, and this is going to sound funny coming from me, they seem to work rather peculiar hours, finish up very early for the day and aren't (if I recall correctly) open at a weekend. My bank balance probably breathed a sigh of relief that day!!!

I use a product called car-lack68. This is a German product and has been around for years. A real good paint cleaner.

Just ordered it Ron.
Done a bit of searching about and it has a very good reputation , also goes under the name of Klasse All In One.

Pre Polish & waxing

Ok I've ordered this too. Well actually to be honest I went a bit detailing product mad and have ordered an absolute stack of products mostly from the recommendations from Kerry's detailing thread. I couldn't buy a smaller size of the Lime Prime so I ordered the new stuff that Dodo Juice have made called 'Supernatural Micro Prime' (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/pre-wax-c ... _1064.html) which claims to be VERY gentle on your paintwork.

My full order of detailing products are:
Car Lack 68 Nano Sytematic Care (300ml)
Meguiars Smooth Surface clay kit
Chemical Guys - Synthetic Quick Detailer
Dodo Juice - Supernatural Micro Prime
CarPro - Iron-X (500ml)
Britemax Metal Twins Kit (236 ml sizes)
Steel Wire Wool Extra Fine Grade #00 Pads
Planet Polish Wheel Seal and Shine
Planet Polish Wheel seal and shine applicator pads (x8)
Blue Perl microfibre applicator pads (x2)
Ultimate Ultra Plush Buffing Cloths 16" x 16" (x3)
Chemical Guys Wooly Mammoth Drying Towel

And that's...the lot!! I refuse to buy wheel woolies at £40 a pop. It may be false economy when I'll no doubt buy several wheel brushes over the next wee while but that just mad me baulk. One thing I could use is a decent non slinging tyre dressing. Any suggestions? May be giving you all a shout about how to use some these new purchases fairly soon and your help and input would be hugely appreciated!! Any starting tips for any of these products would be gratefully received in the interim. :D

Now...how to smuggle them all past the nose of my darling, loving and long suffering wife!!! :eusa-think:

Planet polish wheel seal and shine is by far the best wheel polish I have ever used, my car will be 2 years old soon and my wheels still look brand new.

That's a good enough recommendation for me. Had a bit of a scan through various detailingworld threads and it seemed to come highly recommended. However, your personal experience is VERY reassuring so thank you for that!

Incidentally, a lot of detailing product sellers seem to promote themselves through that forum and frequently offer discount codes. Specifically for DW members but the threads are visible to members and non members and they work for both. Worth keeping an eye on folks. A little disappointed that cleanyourcar.co.uk isn't one of them. They offer a loyalty points scheme with redeemable points. Also disappointed that even though I spent a couple of quid less than 100 bucks with them on this occasion I didn't even qualify for free delivery. Humph... :(

I would recommend cleanyourcar to anyone. Their service is second to none. I much prefer their loyalty point scheme having used them for over 5 years, the points come in very handy and you may not get free delivery BUT you can always be guaranteed that you will get your goods the following day. They are sooooo reliable. I've used a number of the traders on DW and some of them leave a lot to be desired. Some I refused to use again.

Re: Pre Polish & waxing

I have ha very good service from cleanyourcar in the past to be fair and I did have a few quid of loyalty points that I applied which partially made up for the lack of free delivery I suppose. Ordered the Planet Polish wheel and seal directly from them as I couldn't find it (and a few of your other recommendations in stock at either cleanyourcar or polishedbliss). Also tracked down a 7.5% discount code which was handy. The exhaust cleaning twins and recommended wire wool is got from i4detailing and have already had confirmation that that was dispatched today. They're not cheap but at least the seem to have positive relations with DW members who have used them in the past.

I'm actually a little excited about getting stuck in with the new products. Jen's away all day on Saturday so fingers crossed for some decent weather to get cracking. Do need that Gtechniq window armour stuff again (G4?) but that will have to wait. I am a little wary about the Iron-X stuff but everyone raves about it. I've also never used clay before so that'll be "interesting"...gulp!!

Non sling tyre dressings which I would recommend is Gtechniq T1 or Carpro PERL. The secret is not to overload the product on the tyre. Use sparingly and spread. Once you get more product on your applicator, the further it will spread, so less is more.

The clay kit is great. Cut it up into 4 or 5 pieces and it will last. You won't use all of it in one session. Take one piece and make it more pliable by putting it into a jug of hot water and then moulding it. Use the CG Synthetic detailer as a lube. Pour a little (an inch or so) into a spray bottle, then top with cold water and away you go. Spray the clay with the lube and spray a part of the panel and with the clay in the palm of your hand, glide it over the panel you've sprayed. Don't apply pressure and just work in straight lines, up and down and across. You will feel the clay picking up contaminants and will probably see it on the clay (it will look dirty). When it looks real dirty, fold the clay over to a clean part and continue as per before. NEVER rub the clay on the paintwork which has not been sprayed with lube. Feel the paint as you have done an area to feel how much smoother it is. The paintwork will look far more glassy when you've done this too. I'd use your Iron X first too before claying. Spray on, leave for 4 or 5 minute, them rinse off. Do each panel at a time.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with the Dodo Micro Prime.

Yes, best to buy the Planet Polish direct from them. The Britemax are very good on the exhausts but don't use them on your roof arches. Discovered that its not to be used on anodised aluminimum.

Anyway, hope the weather is good for you on Saturday and don't forget to take some pics.

Re: Pre Polish & waxing

RCZ1 thank you so much for taking the time to respond so wonderfully comprehensively. That's going to be REALLY helpful and I'll be sure to have your guidance close to hand just in case I haven't fully committed them to memory. I'll be sure to take some pics and report back about the Dodo Juice micro prime.

I definitely won't be touching the arches with the Britemax. I've still never really been sure what to use on them so just shampoo them and dry them carefully. I suppose a quick detailer would be ok?

No problem, anytime :)

Your new Carlack sealant product will be fine to put on the roof arches to give protection. Then every time you wash the car, when you are drying the car, use the Synthetic detailer as a drying aid all over the paintwork, roof arches, roof and can even be used on glass if necessary. Again, dilute the QD down. It's so versatile and really does last ages. It helps disperse water when drying and removes fingerprints, etc and it doesn't smear.

Gtechniq T1 doesn't sling and lasts longer than any tyre dressing I've used before and does look great & the bigger bottle u buy the cheaper it gets. Only u'll have to wear gloves when applying or it makes ur hand practically waterproof
