Potential New Owner

Good morn,

My son (he is aged 12) and I always run an interesting car as well as our daily driver. At the moment we have a 20 year old Saab 900 convertible (and in the past have run MX5s as our fun car). Having enjoyed the Saab for a few years it is getting near the time when we should swap it for something else. It has to have 4 seats (because of Bob, the dog), be fairly economical to run (remember this is a second car - and we have some bikes as well) and be fun. I've just put the Saab back on the road (being a convertible I tended to garage and SORN it during the winters), so I used it to collect my son from school the other day. As we were driving home I asked him what he fancied as our next fun car, and he said... you have guessed it: a RCZ, which is why I have ended up at this site.

The RCZ seems to fit the bill very well: it is a nice looking car, has 4 seats (well, small ones at the back, but that should be okay for Bob), is a modern design and looks like it should be fun. We read some reviews on the Parker's web page last eve, and looked at some prices on eBay, it looks like we could get quite a good 3-5 year old car for between £6,000 and £10,000, which would be fine, and that the running expenses would be about the same as for the Saab (fuel and tax a bit less, insurance a bit more).

So, that is my introduction. My son and I are here to find out a bit about the RCZ with a view to getting a second hand one as our fun car. If anyone had a moment to point us in the right direction in finding out the pleasures and pitfalls of RCZ ownership then we would appreciate it very much.

Best wishes,

Alan

Take a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10554

I listed a few of the things you can watch for there, as someone else had a similar question to yours. :eusa-think:

Hope that helps, & good luck in your RCz hunt. One thing I can add, you will not regret buying an RCZ, even Bob will love it :eusa-whistle:

Many thanks. I read the thread and it looks like we should get a 63 plate car due to the jacking point issue.

We will probably take the opportunity of enjoying the soft top Saab for the spring and summer, so we have a fair amount of time to do our research.

Best wishes,

Alan

The jacking point issue can happen on any RCZ.
Just ensure its one of the things checked when purchasing or after any work has been done.

To avoid problems with the (mainly front) jacking points have a look at this.

Many thanks, I take your point about the jacking point issue.

I might still go for a 63 or newer car, in fact I've just noticed a 2013 car (PEUGEOT RCZ 1.6 THP SPORT 2DR COUPE - MOROCCAN RED) on Fleabay from a dealer in Lincoln (only about 50 miles away) at £9995, which seems to be just what we are looking for. We weren't going to change the Saab until the end of the summer, but if the mood takes us this weekend we may just go and have a look at that car.

Unfortunately the red car we saw advertised in Lincoln (mentioned above) was sold before we got a chance to see it, not to worry.
The good news in that I've seen a RCZ up close and spoken to a real owner. I happened to park near a black car in the Tesco Corby car park a few days ago, the very helpful lady owner recommended it and let me have a look around, which was very kind of her. I think the RCZ is a car that would suite us well.

That was very kind of you to point out - but I'm not a social media type of person and I'm afraid I don't have a Facebook account.

Othen, I run the RCZ Owners Group on Facebook. I don't use FB other than to post / view the Group and a few other Groups I'm in. My account is totally private and as the Group is a closed group, all posts are private in there only viewable by other members. FB is actually really good for Groups. Give us a try

That was very kind of you to take the time to explain. I'll do some research into Facebook (in general, not the RCZ Owners' Group bit - which I am sure is safe and secure).

Must have been during a trip from Bangalore, maybe a Midwifery convention :eusa-think:
