Hi all,

Going to view a Z tomorrow, have finance agreed in principle, need to check around it obviously.

Car is at Evans Halshaw in Wakefield.

Car is a 156 GT in black, 2011 plate LP11 LGY - Auto - 66k

After spending days looming and leering on the forum I know to look for:

Crushed jacking points
Rattle from timing chain on cold startup
Wing mirrors making noise and mirror not moving

Other than the usual sensors, is there anything else to see, there are obviously some horror stories on here but they do seem in the minority.

Given this is a s1 - I'm hoping and praying that the chain has been changed, but the dealer said it wasnt mentioned in the service book.

Happy to walk away, anyone know the car on the off chance?

I don’t know the car but I know the dealer.

When they had a dedicated Peugeot dealership they were slightly better, but now it’s a shared garage with their Vauxhall franchise, they actually don’t seem to know what they are doing.
Having said that, if they haven’t had chance to mess with this car too much, it might be OK, they will obviously offer some sort of warranty too, so, as they seem to have a habit of just replacing things that go wrong, you should actually be ok.
Just make sure any warranty covers the usual suspects, timing chain, coil packs, HP fuel pump, various sensors - although they’re not an expensive fix anyway.

Mine is back in there on Thursday for a new drivers door mirror, so I’ve got fingers crossed they don’t mess that up. :eusa-think: :eusa-shhh:

They offered a 1 year warranty for £399 I believe, but I've read that it's not worth it as 99% of things aren't covered including most engine parts etc - that they always blame mis-use for the problem e.g. "Low oil" - believe it comes with 3 months standard too - will have a think!

So, been to see the car - Evans Halshaw salesman tried to tell me yesterday that they were on "Skeleton Staff" on a Sunday - a weekend - not sure why he thought I was gullible - and that he wasn't in so wouldn't get chance to test drive.


Went anyway, found the car, heres what I found:


All 4 tyres different - One a Pirelli, one an Excel, one an Accellera and another a "Jinyu" Passenger side had 4 chunks (not minor) from it


All 4 wheels had been refurbished - When I say refurbished, they had been painted single pack poorly, scuffs not rubbed down, just sprayed over, this was also over the calipers, wheel weights etc etc.

Brake disks pitted, scored, knackered.

Panel gap to the wings / bonnet was different

Both front corners of the front bumper had been "smart repaired" There were still sanding marks on adjacent panels that hadn't been buffed out, the swage lines of both front arches had been sanded off in various different areas causing "rounding" of the sharp lines, and overpainted. You could see where they had keyed the surface of both corners of the front bumper and not blown the laquer over far enough, making it look dull.

Grill plastics snapped, cracked and not replaced - Its basically tupped something - god knows what the bumper bars look like underneath.

Looking down the car from both sides, two giant dents on the drivers side, just in front of the handle - passenger side door, above skirt, below main part of door had been sprayed, silicone marks in the paintwork meaning it hadnt been cleaned when being sprayed.

Jacking points, as expected, dont need to say anything on that.

Drivers side seat was missing the lumbar support adjusted on the handbrake side.

I then stopped looking - couldnt be bothered anymore.

Now, I know its a used car, but the "repair work" was quite obviously done by a blind man, or they said "Heres £100" hide as much as you can.

Dissapointed.

Evans Halshaw - tossers. Only bothered about shifting new cars.

Keep looking because there are loads available and most have been looked after much much better than that one. :thumbup:

That's what they said to me when I was *issed off with the state of the car with only 4500 miles on the odometer and just coming up to its second birthday.
I then took him to the customer parking and showed him my Z.
He admitted that it was in as new condition and could see why I expected the same.

It's always the same, they knock hundreds off the exchange price for this and that, but on the sale car, it's expected use and already discounted ? ! Yeah right.

I'm heaviliy limited by choice sadly.

My Wife can only drive Automatic cars so i'm limited to a 156BHP version, plus, being auto, there aren't many about.

Reason being, Im going to replace my 9-3 Aero, but in around 6 months time I get a company car, by which time, I will pass the car down to my wife!

The hunt continues. I did love the look and everything about the car, but I sadly cant look past the fact of 4 different brand tyres, on a car like this, where handling is of the upmost importance. If previous owner quite obviously said "put the chepest tyre on you can find" I highly doubt any service or maintenance will have been done with the correct oil etc.

Such a shame!

Like others have said there are loads out there for sale I’m sure you’ll find a nice auto amongst them :thumbup: you may just have to travel further afield. :beer:

Yeah don't just buy the first one you see, unless it's what you want (spec mileage age etc).
