Playing Music in the RCZ

Hello there :dance:

Just trying to organise my Music in preparation for taking delivery of my Z next week, and although I have in my current Car a USB port never really used it to be honest so a bit clueless (my average day) :crazy: Soooo...

Though I would purchase a 2GB pen drive and just drag and drop files from iTunes , then I assume would just plug in direct to USB port into my new Z when I get it :eusa-think: any pointers I should know about would be gratefully received such as can you just leave the Pen Drive in without any drainage on the Battery and so on?

I have several USB sticks in my arm rest, all with different artists/genres on. I generally leave one plugged in all the time, and never had any problems with power drainage.
I use the same method, drag & drop or copy & paste and the RT6 seems to cope admirably with most things I've thrown at it.
You can also stream directly from your iPhone if you so desire. :eusa-think:

There is also the aux socket in the arm rest, so if you have anything that has a headphone socket, you can connect via cable directly to this & play that way too.

Good idea but iTunes music files are usually .m4a format and I'm afraid they don't read or play in the car.

Reason why? Because Apple suck! :evil:

You need MP3 format music on a USB then you can leave it plugged in all the time and happily listen to your music anytime you're in the car without any problems.

You can however convert .m4a to mp3 directly in iTunes then drag those files onto a USB and it will work then but it's just another unnecessary step thanks to Apple.

I plugged my daughters iPod into the socket in the centre armrest. However, it would only play the music in the order it is on the iPod. The controls on the iPod were disabled whilst it was plugged into the socket. This is obviously very restricting listening to the same stuff over and over again!

I have all my music as MP3 files at home as I listen to it all on a media player. I would consider buying one of the mmory sticks from Amazon but wonder if I would have the same problem. Can anyone advise me please? My stereo in the RCZ is just the basic stereo. Cheers. Bruce.

When playing music from a memory stick, the RCZ list the music alphabetically. You can access the list on the main screen by pressing music & then selecting USB.
You have the option of choosing to play the tracks randomly, but there is no option for genre, artist, etc.

The above might not be the same if your Z doesn't have the SatNav screen, I don't know, as I haven't tried on another Z, so I only have my experiences to go by.

Yes, I've just got the basic stereo on my 2011 1.6THP - no satnav screen. I should just try to find a memory stick somewhere and load some MP3 files and see what happens. Cheers. Bruce.

Hmmm :eusa-think: interesting was wondering about that also, how it would display that is ..as unfortunaely my new little puppy does not have the sat nav either :thumbdown:

Actually just dragged a file (which happened to be James Blunt lol ) directly from iTunes onto a old memory stick yesterday and stuck it into my USB socked in my BMW which I have never tried before. It seems to have a similar set up to Peugeot with the USB located under the Arm rest and played fine without converting to MP3

Do I really need to convert? or did James just get Lucky ;) :lol:

As long as you take a little time compiling your music correctly onto a USB it will be fine.

Artist Name (folder) > Album Name (folder) > Individual Tracks MP3's

Then all your James Blunt albums or whatever will be together. You can repeat whole albums or randomise every song on the USB. You'll never use a CD again!
