Mrizzle - Let me find out from my brother-in-law what he uses - he has an Audi a1 with 19's on it and is a driving instructor so his wheels see a lot of kerb action. I know he has some very manky looking protectors on but believe his alloys are all good underneath.

:lol::lol: I'm sure the kerbs have had plenty of bites at those alloys so if they are as pristine as you suggested I'd be very interested to learn what he uses. Thank you for the thought. Top man!

Ok - just had an SMS from the brother-in-law - he uses Alloygaters - available here:

http://www.alloygator.co.uk/

And yes, you can get them in Yellow :D

They are a bit more expensive than the halfords ones (rimblades), but they certainly look more substantial, and I can attest from having seen the state of them on his car, and the fact that the alloys underneath are still intact that they do work...

I'm holding off on changing back to my summer tyres until mid/end of March here joenep. Temps are still wavering around freezing in Aberdeen.

yes, you are more likely something bad weather as we have in the Netherlands (I'm sorry), I live on the east of the Netherlands, almost against germany.
you have actually a sea climate, we have some continental climate. (often dryer: P)

I want to get my wheels nicely, then they are just below.
it certainly still takes 2 or 3 weeks I expect (until I can not wait;))
