Well I would say engine will loose performace, same as cheap aftermarket exaust pipe, its loud but that is all it is, always think what enginers at main company has done and that is optimum performance, air flow at original filter is all car needs, and this filers is expensive, its only paper, dont be fooled by cheap marketing tricks
Remap is only way to go as mention before or some Akrapovic exaust

Belive what you want, do you sell this air filters?
How much do you gain if you change full exaust from well known company on a car that has 300 hp ?
If everything was so simple... people who develop cars know best, do you think if exaust is silent it doesnt have perfect air flow?
Marketing is unbelivable and people are so easy to trick they need something
One guy told me that it has change Motor oil - different brand same viscosity and it has 2L lower consumption haha
Its better to put sport cat or take out dpf and you will gain some power but air filter  put car on rollers and post pictures wit and without it

You are right 666 marketing people very clever getting you to buy something you maybe don't need, but one thing you forget is manufacturers and production departments have budgets to work within, so " sometimes " not always and in every area, but " sometimes " inferior parts or parts that don't fully give the best for the car, more of a compromise shall we say.
Though I agree with most what you say, and I express " there will probably be no difference ", if it is only in induction sound then that will be ok for me.

Quote - " people who develop cars know best " - if this was true then the RCZ will not have been plagued by faulty chain tensioners, poor quality coil packs and even poorer quality fuel pumps !!

There are companies that specialise in single areas of car part manufacturing, and plough hundreds of thousands into
R & D to develop their products, most of these are far better than the manufacturers inferior product.

Cheers though ! M.

Manufacturers have to cover all and any possibilities, from no dust environment to a very dusty environment (for the air filter for example).
They don't know where the vehicle is going to go so they have to cover all aspects and use a common part (probably to multi vehicles).

Once you have your vehicle you can change bits to make it work better in your environment ie in UK not too much dust but possibly a lot of leaves, so have the stock filter will still give the engine air flow but a specialist one can give it more air flow through and therefore increase the performance , even if it is made of the same materials.

Dont forget that manufacturers have many restrictions When they develop An engine (one of them is the cost)
Low exhaust fumes is also one of them and this happens with lower horse power
Except if you beleive that having a turbo engine that works at 0.6 bar is the Best option
I have the 156 rcz
With a remap it produces 190hp but mine with noname exhaust and a high performance air filter gave 212hp
With a bigger turbo i managed to get 268 hp (stock engine) but i supose from what you said that its All in my mind and never happened because ONLY acrapovic gives power and the manufacturers know better

Jus beware the robots! I just had my 80k service & they kindly removed & dumped my pipercross to replace with stock - part of the checklist apparently - despite the pipercross being about 3 months old :(

Also charged me a truly eye watering figure for the service. &, guess what, the next day I got "engine fault" & no acceleration after 3000rmp in any gear.

'Not related to the service' of course :eusa-shhh:

My K&N air filter came with this sticker (or something similar)

I guess to prevent situations like you had :eusa-think:

Air filters or NOT:

Lotus Clubmans' Formula lightweight Seven chassis with Gerrard F3 all steel 998cc BMC Abingdon motor.
Normally aspirated 45DCOE Weber carb.
Turned alloy trumpets.
I bonded, with difficulty, fine copper mesh to trumpet lips, and trimmed.
They were the air filters.

Lotus Formula Ford single seaters (various) 1600cc Ford.
Normally aspirated down draught single venturi Weber.
When leaving the circuit and entering the paddock all drivers drove one handed (right, for gear change) because the other (left) was, with arm contorted over shoulder so hand could be placed on top of carb to prevent stones and grit going down carb intake.
No air filters.

Rally spec Mini Cooper S 1293cc mainly steel Abingdon.
Normally aspirated 45DCOE Weber carb, positioned where speedo in normal mini was, in centre of dashboard.
It was so deafening (impossible for navigating as no intercoms in those days) that a sound proofed box was constructed and fixed over trumpets.
No air filters.

Lotus Seven Series 2 road spec Ford 105E (Anglia) 997cc cooking (standard) motor, Lotus exhaust and manifolds.
Twin inch and a quarter SU carbs.
No trumpets or filters.

Part rally prepared Ford 100E Anglia 1172cc side valve four branch exhaust modified standard carb.
Gutted standard air filter with wire wool loosely packed.
Couldn't afford proper comp filter so bodged it; deluded!

Every other motor since 1971 - factory standard filter; boring!
