Hi all

Just joined the Forum!
I have just exchanged my RCZ for a RCZ R!

The engine on the R looked beans new so i assumed as bought from a garage it had been cleaned.
Only had it 3 weeks but have looked under the hood each week and a light pink dust appeared in first week and i simply assume its some sort of chemical reaction with heat and cleaning chemical.
But its got more each week.
It almost looks magnetic too!
It wipes of easily...

Any ideas if this is normal for a 'R'

Thanks
Darren

I'm sure I've read this is normal.

Hi and welcome, yes it’s been mentioned before on the forum regarding the R and is quite normal If I remember rightly it’s some kind of fibre from under bonnet heatproofing material.

It is indeed normal. Happened on my last R and my current one. Just clean it regularly.

Yep, normal for the R engine. It comes from the heat insulation inside the heat shield around the turbo.
When the pink stuff is gone then you know the insulation is gone as well and soon you will need to replace the heat shield.

Yes, I asked the same question when I kept seeing this I wondered what the hell it was....

I too was relieved to hear it was nothing to worry about, until it stops then the shield matting is to buy - I guess, probably costing a zillion squid knowing Peugeot !!

They will need to replace the whole metal box wrapped around the turbo. There is no repair kit available for the insulation part only.

If this work is not done what will be the consequence? possible overheating?

Nothing of any bigger concern. Just more heat will crawl on to the bonnet. I once measured a surface temperature of way over 100 °C on the outside of the bonnet, right where the turbo sits beneath. Good for some scrambled eggs of the bonnet

There are plenty of aftermarket universal Turbo blankets for sale I’m sure these will do the job

Hey watch the battery life you're nearly flat there !

But if you cover everything up - turbo wise, that will hamper cooling and the extra heat build up will surely shorten the life of the parts - wouldn't it?

Trust you to notice the battery level! I’ve noticed loads of high performance custom stuff running these covers so I’m sure there’s no harm done :eusa-think:

It's the small things in life Neil... all down to the detail !!!

No I'm just worried about the excess heat build up, it's like putting a thermal blanket round your toaster ? *#!
