Photoshop bits and bobs

Yeah. Some photos can't be pushed though.
The best way to do it is bracket your shots when your taking them. One stop either side of the exposure. If your camera has the option use its RAW file format.

When bkending masks on layers, play about with guasian (spelling?) Blur on the mask to remove any hard edges and blend.

Yeah I always shoot Raw but not really a fan of HDR so don't really bracket. I prefer to do as much as possible within camera. I have a wide set of neutral and grad filters as well as a couple of 10 stop filters.

It's a personal thing as always . I binned all my grad filters years ago and always bracket.
HDR has a bad press as it's meant to be an extension of the shadows and highlights but gets taken to the extreme.
Which can also look good.

This is an old HDR of Morecambe bay from Heysham. Keeping the burn out of the highlights of the sun but allowing the shadows of the foreground rocks to have detail.

Sorry, if I'm boring you :-?

It is a very personal thing. I've seen HDR photos which don't actually look like they are but as you say, s lot tend to get overdone. There's a case for both I would say. Whichever system makes you happy but I like to see what my camera will do.

Nice photo John

The only problem I cn see with it is the original sky still showing through the trees. It would have taken me hours just to do that bit lol
