Peugeot committed to sporty models but RCZ could be dropped

PSA partners Peugeot and Citroen are planning a larger range of sporty cars in the future according the boss Carlos Tavares

PSA boss Carlos Tavares has promised a bigger range of sports cars for the mainstream Peugeot and Citroen brands, if not the premium DS line-up.

However, there’s bad news for fans of the Peugeot RCZ – it’s unlikely to be replaced when the current model reaches the end of its life. Speaking to Auto Express, Tavares said: “Our brands need sports cars, but they’ll be more sporty derivatives than bespoke models.”

:? :x

The DS line up is very nice and exciting, especially the DS5

In my opinion I think Peugeot have gone as far as they can with the look of the RCZ, the feeble attempt at introducing the 2013 model as a new facelift model was laughable, dare I say the nose actually looks a bit bland, in comparison to the original look. :eusa-think:
They (Peugeot) didn't even have the insight to add LED DLR's into the existing headlight unit but instead removed the fogs and put cheap looking units in their place.
Not a very nice look for a so called flagship model.

It was clearly obvious that the designers wanted to stick with a look that worked, so decided to change very little, hence spend very little, so therefor I cant see Peugeot doing anything major in the looks of future Z's.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the current Z was not replaced.
I think the wow factor that the RCZ (old & new) brought to our roads has now almost disappeared, than say 2 or 3 years ago when they made heads turn.

Yeah just keep digging your hole deeper Peugeot.... Way to go...

Making "not good enough" derivatives at insane prices will surely work even better.

I don't agree about the head turning Jactac, I know I have only had mine a few days, but it certainly gets attention everywhere I go. As for the facelift, the only thing that was putting me off getting one was the front of the Mk1 which I thought looked just "too Peugeot". As soon as I saw the improved Mk2 I knew I was always going to get one.
So let's face it, that's is just a matter of opinion and taste.
I can see how a major company could consider a car such as the Z being a niche market, and let's face it, it's all about numbers as far as car sales go. They would rather sell 1000 308's than 300 Z's. The mystique surrounding the Z is probably contributing to its downfall.
Almost everyone that has seen mine had no idea what it was, who made it or how much it was.
The general opinion seems also to be that people expect it to cost 30k plus, so probably show little interest in buying one.

So, if you have one, hang onto it, cos once they aren't making any more, the depreciation is likely to be a lot less.

Whenever there is a major motor show there are always the fantastic concept cars that disappear without trace, we'll Peugeot for all their faults decided to actually go ahead and make one - the RCZ was born, and I for one am very glad they did

Very true, same could be suggested though as to why many owners of the MK1 opted out of going for the MK2, ie: Dislike of the altered nose, not enough of a change to the newer model, and more importantly frustrated with ongoing know faults that have not addressed.
But like you say, it's all a matter of taste & opinion :eusa-think:

Agree entirely about the ongoing faults that should have been addressed BEFORE release of the Mk2.

It's obviously impossible to eradicate ALL faults, as anything with moving parts has the capacity to go wrong (space shuttle  )

BUT when there are faults that so many people have experienced, clearly they should have been targeted by R&D which would happen in any other industry.

Had the same recurring faults been apparent in a higher volume model, I truly believe Peugeot would have thrown everything at them before any facelift model was released.

Having said all the above, I am currently so impressed with my new RCZ, providing it doesn't prove to be a money pit, it will be hard for anyone to dampen my enthusiasm.

I wonder if Peugeot would design the rcz to be topless?

Probably would have too many on back order.

I think when someone get's their hands on a brand new car they are thrown into the "honeymoon period" especially one that looks like the Z.
Even if that car throws up the odd fault it wont dampen enthusiasm whilst they are still drooling and in love.

However, fast forward a few years and for many owners things are not quite the same when the honeymoon is a distant memory and you find that your dealer is now not only constantly under your bonnet but also now acting as a marriage councilor trying to re-install faith & enthusiasm back into what once was a loved up relationship.

For what it's worth, after 3 years of owning my Z, and putting up with many of the known niggles and some not so known, I still get a buzz out of her looking her best, and keeping her in tip top condition.
Having said all that, I still think the Z is a frustrating car to own and look after.
I guess its like having a good looking wife on your arm that you like showing off, but now and then she throws her dummy out of the pram.

A convertible RCZ :?
If the sills on the current RCZ are anything to go by, I just hope that a convertible version comes with a snorkel for those rainy days

On one hand it would be a pity if they don't develop these cars more, but I'm more inclined to look at the positives here.

Despite the car being out for a while now, you don't see that many around, relatively speaking- especially compared with comparative cars like the TT, which are two-a-penny.
That's what I like about the car - its a bit more left field and exclusive.

I think there is potential for these to be future classics, especially the more limited edition models like the Asphalt, Red Carbon and the 'R'. So the sooner they stop production the higher the chance that is.

I agree that's why I bought this car over the TT, was down to the way it looked, and the price point was awesome, has everthing on it. I want to upgrade to a R, in 2016, in all black :)

If they do drop it all current owners would be wise to hold on to theirs..

That was one of the best quotes i've read in a while :) And it fits the RCZ perfectly :D

Mine has had it's fair share of niggles aswell but darn it all when it runs perfectly on a nice evening in the sunset it's all just worth it.
