Peugeot Assistance Plus

F.Y.I.......

I've just upgraded the Peugeot Assistance to 'Plus' as it covers assistance with punctures.

Costs £20 extra a year, so I think it's money well spent considering they'll rescue me if I have a puncture and take me to the nearest garage .... I refuse to use the cannister of foam and wreck a tyre at ~£250 each!

Ring the AA and make sure that's what you are going to get roadside for your cover, another on here found the AA took a differing view to the cover.
Find out what it says on the AA system your cover is because that is what you will get. If you need to argue its best to do that from the comfort of you armchair at home than beside the road sometime.

But surely fact that it's written in black and white, on the Peugeot Assist brochure it means something, they wouldn't blatantly advertise a service that they can't cover...... would they????? :eusa-think: :eusa-think:

... that would be a job for Anne Robinson and Watchdog if that happened!

My understanding is that it is available in Europe with the intention of bringing it to the UK.

I think you misunderstand Ron, I'm speaking about the Roadside recovery thing they sell you with the car (usually £120 for the 3 years) not they button thingy that someone else was speaking about........

Two punctures and no AA cover

Postby OO58RON » Fri Sep 23, 2011 7:58 pm
Well I have to say that I am not a happy bunny  I had two punctures on my way home from work tonight. AA wanted £120 to attend as they say that Peugeot do not pay for SIF cover (self inflicted fault) Being unprepared to pay for this, Pearl2 has been abandoned on the side of the road

I was told by Peugeot HQ that our cover includes punctures, when the tyre gunk fails to work. I have two punctures so clearly according to Peugeot I should be covered. This needs to be resolved twix Peugeot & The AA ASAP

So, whatever it says in the book, ring the AA and ask THEM what they are going to do for you. Other have said this is now fixed, I would still ring them.

cheers paul, but as far as I can gather Ron DIDN'T have the upgrade to PLUS (I wasn't aware of the upgrade until I read the booklet otherwise I would have paid for it right at the start when I bought the car). 'Normal' Peugeot Assist DOESN'T cover plonkers that put in the wrong fuel or puctures, it says that. However it DOES say that PLUS covers punctures. I'm keeping the handbook and my letter saying I've got the PLUS assistance in the car, and I'll argue with AA mannie as long as he likes .... he'll only argue if he can't read........
Peugeot wouldn't be stupid enough to advertise something they couldn't fulfil.....

Donna you wouldn't get the chance to argue with manny. Not unless you paid for him to attend. But seriously you are right I didn't have plus cover. My handover was so poor that when I left the dealer with Pearl2 I didn't have a clue if I had breakdown cover or not.
You'll be fine Donna as you say they wouldn't be so stupid

Donna,
Ron is right, you will not get to even talk to the AA patrol, if the person on the end of the phone say you are not covered and will only take it of the screen in front of them, then that's the cover you get. That is why I say ring up NOW before you need to, find out just what it says on the AA system about your level of cover, then sit back and relax in the knowledge you are covered and help will come, OR jump up and down to whoever sold it to you, at a time you are NOT in need of service.

I'm a bit surprised that some members have had probs with the AA attending punctures.
I know from experience within the last year that they have attended 2 punctures for me,
I called them out to my works when i had a puncture and my jack was faulty and then i even called them out from my home to attend my son who was out in his car and had a flat but couldnt find the wheel brace, (which was staring him in the face in the boot)

They didnt question the fact that i was not in the car when i explained he had a puncture in his own car, i think we have "family cover" so it doesnt matter who's driving or what car has the problem.

Our AA cover is one of those insurances the bank gives you with certain accounts, not sure the exact level we with them, we just phone the banks 24hr helpline and explain the problem and they then put us through to the AA.
Happy days.

Phoned the AA and they've put my mind at rest. Puctures ARE covered (and the best bit) and they will provide hire car for 3 days .... so if they recover you and the garage doesn't have a replacement tyre for example, they'll give you a car for 3 days until a tyre is sourced. Good news considering out tyre sizes aren't likely to be in stock at garages all the time.

Happy bunny........

I fairly think it's worth the measly £60 over the 3 years.

Just thought I'd let other's know in case they wanted to do the same, for peace of mind.

my dad did wonder if I'd be better going down the 'Jag spacesaver' route but like I said I'd much rather sit in the warmth of the car on a dark, cold, wet night waiting however long for the AA rather than struggling with jacks and spacesavers in the pitch black..... 'cos punctures always happen in the dark or pouring rain!

I recently had a puncture on a motorway near Manchester. I pulled onto a slip road with a dangerously narrow hard shoulder. The puncture was on the r/h side next to the motorway. I rang Peugeot Assistance who asked if I was carrying the Puegeot gunk kit. My reply was that it had been previously discharged (I still had the inflation kit), that I was carrying a proprietary product but that it was not safe to use it where we were. Despite this and the dangerous location they said it was "self inflicted". I asked if there was anything they could do to help - we would have been prepared to pay - but they said no. We expected as a minimum that they would have contacted a local recovery company on our behalf. They simply abandoned us. I rang Marshall's Assistance and they arranged for recovery to the nearest tyre dealer. There we found that the inside of the tyre was completely shredded. Pumping gunk in would have just made a mess in a dangerous location.

I was shocked at the AA/Peugeot Assist's abandonment of us. We were stressed and a bit scared. Far from being a "Fourth Emergency Service" they were a moron reading a flawed script and totally oblivious to the obvious dangers.

I also had not been offered the upgrade to "plus". Presumably because the salesman had tried to sell us separate expensive tyre insurance.

I felt shocked and let down. This will definitely influence any decision over a future car purchase. Between Peugeot, the dealers and the AA there is an unholy confusion over what should and shouldn't be provided. Marshall Assist came out well from this. Peugeot Assist? Just an oxymoron. It is clearly wrong that the carrying of a can of tyre compound - at best a flawed concept - should be a yes/no on the provision of assistance. I'm pretty disgusted frankly.

Well it sounds that if you contact them you just need to say no you don't have the gunk or even a spare, possibly even saying the compressor is not there either.
And when they do come out and they find it just simply say "Oh is it in there?"

Worth bearing this in mind when contacting any breakdown company.

Well you've rather made my point. If I had carried Peugeot-supplied gunk (as opposed to someone else's) would they have then demanded that I use it even though it wasn't safe to do so? If I had discharged this stuff through a tyre that was a write-off would they then have rescued us? Who knows? Even if it had worked, would any sane person want to risk driving on a tyre "repaired" in that way on one of England's busiest motorways? The issue here was that they abandoned us in a dangerous place on the basis of a question and response algorithm that is flawed - all that after their ass-covering "safety" questions and "advice"
. Peugeot underwrite this nonsense and I hold them primarily responsible for it.

Have you considered contacting Peugeot UK HQ and supplying them with this info as they do, at times seem to see the individuals’ point of view and they may change their approach.
Tel :- 02476 884 000.

I've had great success when I've called them, even though the garage wouldn't help, Peugeot UK HQ got it sorted at the same garage.
