Parking sensor error, pigeon accident..

Hi guys,

Just cruising about 85km/h with cruise control ON, suddenly a pigeon on the road refused to move aside.... Loud bang, scared the hell out of me, feathers everywhere...
I pull up at the first gas station to check out the damage, no dents as far as I can see, but I do get a Parking Sensor ERROR. Took a look closely and on my front bumper one
of the parking sensors got replaced by a gaping hole... I believe that I feel the sensor still inside, but I'm not really sure. Any of you have had any experience with damage
to the sensors? Will give my garage a ring tomorrow, hopefully it's not big deal.

Yes, I've hit a light post while leaving a parking place and looking left whether no traffic was coming which also resulted in what you have.
However as there was also other more substantial damage I had it all repaired under insurance in which case they simply replace everything which even has the slightest scratch resulting in a whopping bill of EUR. 4500! BTW I was quite disappointed that the front parking sensors didn't give any warning before the collision. IMHO they're really only useful for parking at very low speed.

Also I had a similar pigeon incident recently (yeah I know, another poor dead bird, are they turning deaf?) where I didn't see any damage at first but when washing the car I noticed that one fog light was loose on one side. The dealer had a look and found that the mount of the fog light that is molten to the inside of the bumper had broken where it holds the light. Because of the way the mount is attached it's not really possible to replace it so they fixed the fog light in place in a provisional manner. I wish this incident would have happened before the light post incident because I'm now not in a position to claim insurance for several years....

I still had the calculation for the first damage and it lists the front parking sensor for EUR. 71.47 (excl. VAT).
It probably will also take about an hour work to fit it.

I went so see my dealer, he told me that the 'holder' that keeps the sensor in place was broken off. My sensor is still inside, but he needed to place an entire new front black bar
so that would be about €450 euros. I asked him if that wasn't a bit drastical? The solution is now simply putting back the sensor with some Kit-glue, same result, though it will
cost me no more than €200 euros. I don't want to involve the insurance, because my no-damage years are very important to me at this age. It's not exactly what the dealer had in
mind, but in the end I have the same result as when the would have replaced the entire bar!
