Opinions on this mod I'm considering ?

OK, so I've already done a few mods to the car and I was looking at getting the Ruffer system but I am thinking I want something completely different for my car so thinking out the box I've mocked this on photoshop. It is based on the R8 system but I think it suits the RCZ.

I think it looks right and that is my main aim, it must look like it belongs on the car so the detail on the finish will have to be right to please me, I will not go for a hole in the bumper and an exhaust just sticking out. I will buy the Ruffer rear valance to replace the original one also (even though it won't be doing anything).

So is it a Yea or Nah ? (not my car btw)

It won't be everyone's taste and I open to constructive criticism , I guess the purist who doesn't want to touch the car will have a certain opinion on it but it's good to throw it out there to gauge some views. It's all about trying to think out the box for me and not go with the run of the mill mods but also still try and keep it looking like it belongs.

A practicality issue - heat from exhaust to reversing sensor.

The actual look for me would be no, but everyone has their own ideas of what is good or bad.
If you like it go for, everyone will still have their own opinion on it, but you would be the person who did it, and if they like it they can copy your idea.

Something to consider with the sensor, I'll speak to the body shop and go though it with them.

I'm not sure what it's like in that area with regards to heat build up and the electrics from the reverse and fog light. I know the Ventrosso RCZ did something similar with a custom valance but with the exhaust below.
I think the bumper lends itself to something with the exhausts coming through but the dimensions I have put are maybe a little large, I'd need to mock it up with paper cut outs to get the size that suits and positioning, it still may not work once you start trying it away from the 2 dimensional image.

Ps I'm not keen on the through the bumper look myself, but as has been said, if you like it, and it works, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. :thumbup:

I like the idea of you thinking "outside the box" but the exhaust fumes are gonna be a pain to clean off that

Thanks I know what you mean, the simplest looking things are not always the easiest, there will be a bit of work getting the finish right and building out (without going too far) on getting the angles right (doesn't need to be straight out pointing to the rear as I'll want an angle on them). The tail pipe will fit in and be attached to the inside of the bumper (like the image) and the exhaust fabricator will build to meet it on the inside.

One thing to bear in mind is the quad mod on my car, only noticed when washing, is water sitting in the exhaust trims, might do it in torrential rain as well.

I shouldn't think that will be any bigger a problem than others have, I'll keep that in mind when setting the angle and positioning of them in order to drain any standing water (I'll be more concerned about getting other stuff stuck in it) :lol:
The other thing is I only take it out in good weather

I think that you're going to need some type of surround around the cut on the rear bumper otherwise this section is going to be forever discoloured and covered in exhaust deposits. Personally I'd just have these sprayed black because they are dirty so quickly that it becomes a complete pain in the butt to keep on top of. Just a thought.

I would hope it's not going to be that big a problem especially when you look at the R8 tailpipes. They even look like they're angled back into the exhaust

Yes but have you seen these on a regularly used car? Here's what the surrounds look like on my VXR which is a similar kinda design albeit not set directly into the bodywork. They're such a pain in the ar$e that I have stopped cleaning them. I'm going to get them powder coated at some juncture. Look closely and you'll see what I mean and the build up starts within a few miles of them being cleaned.

The y should be entirely silver...and this is just after them being cleaned shiny and having covered about 20 miles.

Recently, though I don't have photos I'm afraid, this build up was encouraging up the lower panel above the surround. Just a thought is all.

The other thing is I only take it out in good weather

I set mine flat rather than setting the rear of the tips lower.
As for getting other stuff stuck put a mesh into it, set it back so as the mesh is not too noticeable.
