oil usage and sludge in filler cap + loss of water

Hi,
bought my Z about 6 months ago so had time to play, but from the start had a few problems.
after a couple of hours of owning this car it would not start even though it seemed fine at the dealers and when picked up.
Fair play to the dealer they sorted the issue, it was a fault fuel pump and coil pack.
but my issue is the car seems under powered so I am tinging the head gasket is on its way out or the turbo as the oil usage seems to be far higher than the water.
I don't do many miles and in the last 6 months have covered only about 2k mile but used about 3 litres of oil and about half a litre of water.
Fairly sure its the head gasket but just wanted to put it out to longer owners of this very nice car.

Just for info I have a GT 156 in Dolphin blue 2011 with mods planed if I can get this engine issue sorted ??

Still love the car and have no intention of letting it go unless I could get my hands on an R

Hi, I too don't do many miles in my Z and I find I also have to top up the coolant a little and oil also but no where near as much as you say your using :eusa-think:
The sludge in the oil filler cap is probably down to doing short journeys and low miles mine does it also at times and I've recently bought the wife a Mini Cooper S which has the same engine as the Z and the cap was full of the white sludge but a good clean out and a couple of long runs has got rid of it same as the Z a good long hard run is all it needs.
These engines do tend to use oil and water.
As for the power loss now that's a different matter my car feels like a rocket always has so maybe you have a problem there? :eusa-think:

+1 on everything Neil said. The short journeys can cause condensation to form under the filler cap. The Prince engine is an oil user, and some owners have reported coolant use.

Mine does use oil but again nowhere near your quantities, and I do short journeys regularly. However, I rarely have to top up the coolant, it is pretty constant, and I don't get any residue under the oil filler cap, but I do give mine a good blast most days.

As for power, any faster and I would quickly run out of underpants. :eusa-whistle:

thanks for the reply guys,
I new short journeys could cause sludge due to condensation in the engine but I think I have a problem with the amount of oil being used.
I am trying a couple of products from REDEX that clam to reduce oil usage and stops leaks, not that I can find any on my car, will report back once I have had time to put some miles on it if this helps my toy.
As for the coolant not sure about that, will also keep a close watch on this as well.
Hopefully its just a quirk of the engine.
I have a good warranty on it so any problems should be sorted if I have any.
Just for chat I had an RX8 for some time and this car needed a good amount of care and TLC to keep it running well but well worth the trouble. Only sold it due to getting a company car, but the Z is a far nicer car to drive and own and a dam site better looking.

Pretty sure that I read some pretty strong advise on here against using oil additives that are supposed to stop leaks.
It can actually cause unintended clogging in other parts of the cooler causing more damage instead of fixing your problem.

Generally speaking, any additives designed to stop leaks, be it in the coolant system or in the oil, are not a good idea. They are designed as a short term fix, but are known to cause long term problems.

They are not recommended for use on any car that is worth repairing properly, and the RCZ is definitely a car that is worth repairing properly.

It's not rocket science really, if you think about it, they are supposed to clog up holes to stop leaks. Do you really want to put something in your car that is designed to clog anything up????

quick update, been in touch with the warranty company about oil usage and have booked the car into the dealers for a health check, so hopefully they can find what if anything is wrong with it.
and I agree with you about he additives but after contacting redex about the product they have assured me this has been fully tested on turbo cars with no known issues ???
because of the power loss I am fairly sure the turbo is Donald ducked
