Not having a good day..

1. Woke up this morning to an absolute pile of bird crap on the roof of the car, which after cleaning off has left etched-in stains on the black plastic roof panel.

2. Coming back from a Sunday drive this afternoon I curbed and chipped a front alloy whilst parking. Until today they were all otherwise completely unmarked.

I've only had the car a couple of weeks and already I am not worthy of it

2. Curbing the offside wheels is very common. The RCZ is an EXTREMELY deceptive car, you look at it and think it's a tiny little bug of a thing* but in fact it's far wider than you think. My last car before this was a Subaru station wagon (Legacy in NZ, dunno what you call them in the UK) and the Peugeot is only a few cm shorter than that wagon, and the track is actually a few mm wider. Which I discovered the very first time I backed it through my gate.

*Edited to add: This is just as true when looking at it from the outside, as it is from the drivers seat.

I see you bought the HDi - looks like a good car. I haven't actually got my RCZ yet. I've agreed to buy it but it's having some mechanical work done first. Owned by a Peugeot mechanic - it's a long story. But it's a manual one and that's what I wanted...

Yeah I read your initial post and figured it might be a long road to ownership. The manual is definitely the one to have but be warned, it's an utter bitch around town. We were in Wellington over King's Birthday and trust me when I tell you it's a lumpy old thing on Wellington's hills. Only starts to be livable once you hit the open road. I'm lucky in that mine is basically a weekend toy and I wouldn't want it as a daily driver.

I hate automatics and am used to six-speed manuals (and vintage crash gearboxes but that's a whole different story) so I'm hoping it will be ok. I've never actually driven an RCZ yet...

Better news today, I gave the whole car a proper clean and the bird stains have come out I really thought they were there for good.

Aww that’s nice to know!! With bad bird stains I was always advised to place soaked kitchen towel over them, keep wetting it to stop it drying and then remove the sh*t after at least 15 mins….

They do as long as you dont let it sit for days. I have a designated spot at wo k. It’s under a big buddliah that’s growing out a wall and all the little birds sit there all day evacuating their bowels all over my car. I carry a bottle of water in the boot and just rinse it off before I head off at night.

At home I’m next to the harbour and seagulls can deliver the mother of all bird dumps. If they’ve been on the mackerel or something horrible out the bins I’m pretty sure it can go through the metal as well if you leave it

they sit on the roof of the house waiting on me to wash it. Then they take aim. They also teach their youngsters to do it.
