Having read that, before my Sister died, she was caught doing 34 in a 30 limit by a roadside mobile camera van. She got a letter through the post 3 points and a fine, so much for....

Speed limit: 30 mph

ACPO threshold for:

a fixed penalty or a Speed Awareness course: 35 mph
summoning: 50 mph

My Brother also got caught doing 34 in a 30 (my Brother never used to go over the speed limit) He was sent on a speed awareness course.

It seems that the guidelines are not set in stone and that if you are going overboard the limit, it’s upto the guy with the camera as to whether you are in trouble, regardless as to how far over the limit you were.

Im sure they only have to send it within 14 days, so they could send it via China and you not receive it for three months providing the issue date is within time.

Thats a bit extreme though, but you would need to allow a certain time for postage, although they are usually quick about it.

I have also found a post on a solicitors web site that says the Police regularly break their own rules regarding the time limit allowed to inform the registered keeper of a speeding offence.

The advice is to contest the fine all the way to court, as it‘s actually legislation not guidelines, so although the Police are likely to insist you still have to pay the fine, if you do stick to your guns, you WILL be found not guilty if it does go to court, but I would imagine it take b@lls to go all the way, under the threat of ever increasing fines etc.

Big sighs all round

I’ve not heard a Dicky Bird, so I can only assume they were having a brew at the time :eusa-shhh:

Must admit though, I did think they had me bang to rights, I can’t deny, I did drive a little more carefully,

FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF HOURS

Nice one Pete  I once got done allegedly doing 34 in a 30 but I had pulled onto a main road with the camera van directly across from me so made sure I stuck to 30 all the way to the national limit sign but I did flash to warn oncoming traffic and I'm sure they gave me a slap for doing that!

As we all know it's just a money making game nowt to do with safety :sleeping-yellow:
And as they say "speed kills" well all the flys on my front bumper are dead!

Flashing of lights to other drivers.

Isn't that in the interests of safety???!!!??? and therefore legal.

You can also say its been done when no camera/money making vans are about.

I flashed a cop car yesterday to pull out in front of me, he waved and thanked me, but I wasn’t doing it out of kindness, I wanted him in front of me so I could see what he was doing, rather than behind me so he could see what I was doing :eusa-whistle:
