No power in most gears

Hi guys. Im really struggling. My knowledge of cars in general is pretty poor. Recently my engine light has come on in my 1.6ltr 2010 thp RCZ. Thereafter the car was definitely running strangely. Pulling away in 1st was a massive problem and there just appears to be no power or driving force at all behind the car. Once im able to get out of 1st into 2nd its the same issue. 2nd is usually the gear that will allow me to fly and i would hear that turbo whistle kick in as well. Not now. Nothing. Its like the car is dead inside. Pulling away at traffic lights or getting in at a roundabout is a scary and dangerous thing now. Any help or advice available please!

Sure, you need to get the diagnostic trouble codes read. Any competent mechanic should be able to do that. You could even do it yourself, all you need is a 10 quid dongle and an android phone.

I would say your engine is in limp mode, with the turbo disabled to protect your engine - so now drives like a gutless normally aspirated 1.6.

The actual codes will give you more of a clue but the list of possibles would have to include:

Timing chain
Water temperature sensor
Coil packs
High pressure fuel pump

All the above taken from the list of known common faults. It could be any one of a number of other issues, but they're the ones most often seen.

Any other symptoms - funny readings from temperature gauge; fluid leaks; oil in water/water in oil, etc?
