Newbie introduction!

Hey everyone, Already posted in a couple of other threads but thought Id best introduce myself, to be polite!

Im Steve, living near Durham, although due to move to Germany in August for 2 years, good side is I get to buy a new car tax free! So was looking to trade my boxster in for probably a BMW 335 MSport coupe or cabriolet. In truth had never looked at Peugeots, and wouldn't normally consider them, however went shopping for a second hand car with my girlfriend and stopped at a Peugeot dealer, I wondered why they had what appeared to be a new Audi TT, you can imagine my shock when i saw it was a peugeot (I dont read a lot of car mags, or watch TV much)!!!! Had a sit in it and instantly fell in love with it. Only downside for me is that horrid lion on the bonnet, would much prefer it to be more subtle!! Also the dealer was a bit of an idiot, admittedly I was wearing jeans and a hoodie (i was slobbing it that day, and the rain was atrocious), but his first reply to me was 'Its very expensive' said in a patronising tone, when he told me it was 25-30k I laughed at him and told him I was about to go to BMW the next day and spend £49k on a car. Anyway found another garage to chat with, who are friendly and helpful, youd think salespeople wouldnt want to blow the chance of a sale with rude behaviour though!

Anyway the damn RCZ played on my mind, and worked its way in, Im going for a test drive in 1hr and if its nice to drive then i will definitely be placing my order later today! Im not expecting handling equivalent to my porsche, but as long as its fun, im happy, the MPG is a big bonus, I think i manage about 18mpg at the moment, not to mention the boot space :O So fingers crossed, im going for the following spec, unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Pearl White 200GT
The full leather package in black (easier to keep clean)
JBL Hifi pack
Vision pack
Carbon brilliant black roof
19" Sortilege Black onyx wheels
Wifi (im a gadget geek)
Peugeot media center Satnav thingy!
Front skirts from the Feline pack

Considering getting the Quad exhaust as well as the Feline Transfer sticker as well. Not convinced by the grill though, think i prefer the standard version. Any opinions from you guys and gals?

Im really blown away so far by the standard equipment you get on this car, it really appears value for money, even better the deal I have been offered so far is 10% Military discount and 20% of VAT, so a saving of 30% on the stock price. That should soften depreciation!!!! Not to mention how cheap it is compared to the BMW, and in my opinion, how much better it looks!

Can anyone let me know how steep the maintenance costs are? Servicing etc? Im used to Porsche and BMW garages, so hoping it will be a pleasant surprise, but knowing main stealerships, i doubt it! Really looking forward to popping back to that dealer when it arrives and reminding him of his rudeness :D

Only thing I disagree with on that spec is the carbon roof, heard it's not up to scratch considering the cost. And as for the salesman, obviously thinks he's a luxury car salesman but doubt he ever will be . . .

Hi Steve and welcome :greetings-wavingblue: . I think I'd agree with soundwave that the carbon roof is an unnecessary expense...the standard roof is so shiny many people ask if it's glass. The carbon also adds considerable weight to the car thereby reducing MPG altho' I'm sure those who've gone for the option will have something to say about this statement  .

Hope your test drive went well and you're ready to order and go back to that surly sales rep and give him what for  !!!

Hey guys,

Test drive was in a 156GT, not the 200GT. Who cares, it was fun driving (more than i was expecting after having a boxster for 3 years), handled well, was fairly responsive and wasnt as slow as i was expecting. Can only guess the 200 will be a bit more responsive, so alllllllllll good there :)

Definitely placing the order, the car i drove was in white, with black wheels and the carbon roof, i think someone was trying to tempt me, or maybe it was just fate. Confirmed that I didnt want the carbon wing mirrors, stickers down the front and black brake calipers, although Im now thinking of painting them Red, anyone know of an aftermarket paint that can be used on the calipers? Either way have to have it, i didnt want to give the keys back to the Sales Lady!

Im having a right old dilemma now! Carbon roof in brilliant black looked really nice, but is it £1000 worth of eye candy, considering it doesnt replace the normal roof (didnt realise that, seems a bit mad to me - if it did, it would be an instant purchase for me, but if its just cosmetic...)! Would love a few more opinions, the extra grand isnt a major concern for me, but Im also not keen to waste money for something that is just a very expensive cosmetic upgrade. Also considering getting rid of the Front Skirts now.

So the dealer lady is going away to come back with some prices, im also waiting for a couple of the military specialist dealers to come back also, best offer I have so far is £22500 for the following (add £1000 for the Brilliant black carbon Roof):

Pearl White 200GT
The full leather package in black (easier to keep clean)
JBL Hifi pack
Vision pack
19" Sortilege Black onyx wheels
Wifi (im a gadget geek)
Peugeot media center Satnav thingy!
Front skirts from the Feline pack

Anyone know of any better deals anywhere?! Marcus maybe?!

It's always worth contacting Marcus, I'm sure he will be able to do you a good deal

Good luck with deciding on all your options. Personally, I wouldn't go for the carbon roof, but that's just me :D

Thanks RCZ1, you actually made me consider Pearl White, was going for Black until I saw all your amazing photos! Also really liked your cleaning guide and will be putting it into practice when the car arrives!

Thanks Wiggers. I may be a little biased here but I think the Pearl White is gorgeous. Only today someone commented on how it glistens in the sun  it's quite rare to see a pearl White in any car so it makes it stand out even more :D

Glad you found the cleaning guide useful. You'll have to keep your pearl looking good when you get her. :D

Hello and welcome. I very much doubt that you will get a lower price than that. I have ordered the gloss carbon roof. Got the matt at the moment. It is pure cosmetic, but it is less common and so fairly unique (if There can be such a thing) mines costing over £1500 so again a steal at the £1000 you quoted. To me and others on the forum JBL is not worth the upgrade. The standard is damn good anyway. We all know you will enjoy the car. It is so much fun to drive and gorgeous too.

I have virtually the same spec but, no carbon roof (dont recommend). However I would say get the black grille as it then matches nicely with the wheels and barkes. I also went for keeping the mirrors white.

Have fun.

I delt with and bought from Marcus, great fella to deal with, know's his stuff, but not the cocky sales nonsense.
i have a pretty simular spec to what your looking for, i opted for the 156 GT, plenty fast enough for me to be totaly honest, also had the front feline spoiler strips but stayed with the white mirrors and standard grill, personaly i thought the feline grill made the front look like a big black fish's mouth, and the black mirrors stood out too much.
But it's all down to personal choice.
Hope you get a good deal.

thanks all for your comments, i have really appreciated them. Marcus has been a big help, im a bit of an anomally being a Forces individual, so its taking him a little longer than expected!

Pretty much sure on spec now, dropped the Chrome roof after reading these forums. It looks nice, but not £1000 worth of nice :D Also decided against the Feline front skirts for now, although may add them later. Sticking with the JBL, as I love my sound systems :p

I didnt opt for the Brakes, as I plan on painting them myself, probably red, which i think will look really good against the white and black. Not convinced about the frint grill though. Wasnt going to have it black as i think in the white it actually looks slightly better as standard, the black just looks too much like a big hole? Although im relying on photos pretty much so any advice is always appreciated!

Wiggers, I agree about the the black front grill on a white car - it does look like a big black hole. I'd be tempted to have the black bumper at the front painted white - but don't want to be the guinea pig if it doesn't look right when done.

Finally ordered the car at last :D

Pearl White 200GT
Integral Leather in Mistral Black
JBL Hifi pack
19" Solstice Black onyx wheels
Peugeot media center Satnav thingy!

Sadly not getting the vision pack, due to the price of additional LHD Xenon headlights for my two years in germany (see my thread in tech discussion). Really excited, but also a little sad at the same time!

I reckon that a detailing day would make a hell of a meet? I suspect a lot of people would learn a lot. As previously mentioned I'd never heard of detailing. Wash & polish was all I knew.

I think RCZ1 could quickly become a Superstar!! Likewise 0058Ron, id never heard of detailing, and had always been scared of messing up my car, so paid a fortune for lacklustre jobs!! Seeing some of RCZ1s pics and others on here, its given me a thirst to learn!!

@RCZ1, im in Catterick, but live in Leeds. Would love to come down next time youre doing pearl and learn how, unless you want to do a days detailing lesson for all of us, you could make a bit of cash i reckon doing that :D

My husband has been saying this very thing for a while now Ron and I've always laughed at him. If people were interested in a detailing meet, then I reckon it would be a good day, although we'd probably need somewhere like a Unit with water and electricity and some space more than my drive. There must be more serious detailers on the forum who might be interested in taking part too.
