Hi Everyone Just found this forum when I was looking for info wrt my RCZ R front brake issue! Lots of good knowledge and info made joining a no brainer. I am what could be described as a more senior member of the community and a bit of a petrol head. Have owned 50 plus cars in my lifetime including a MGB Roadster, Marcos 3 litre, Cooper S (1962 version) etc and as a part time biker also have a 1954 Panther M100 . Have got to a RCZ R via a RCZ HDI and a THP 200 so something like a decade of RCZ ownership. Not massively au fait with forums (or computers come to that) and the etiquette, but look forward to learning more about RCZs as there is always something you don't know.

All the best

Thanks everyone for the very friendly welcome. So to answer the questions. My first RCZ was a black (first and last car in black - fantastic when just washed but horrible to keep clean as it shows the slightest wiff of dust) HDI - VRN (in case a member has it) KM11 LKO - no pictures of that but it was a great intro to RCZs and very economical - 50mpg (I used it for work and was driving min 20k a year). Trouble is when you have a fantastic looking car like that there are times when you need more performance than a 2 litre diesel can give you, so after a couple of years with some miles on the clock I traded it back in, at the local Peugeot Main Dealer where I got it from, for a pearlescent white THP200. I loved that car - the paint job looked fantastic, the alloys too (see picture) and it went really well - no longer struggling on fast take offs and you could use all the performance. Sadly I was still doing a lot of (enjoyable) miles and after another couple of years I was back at the main dealer trading in again. This was during one of their offer weeks and I was after an R they had on their website - another white one. Unfortunately someone beat me to it but they had a demonstrator R, which was taken from the manager using it and offered as an alternative - 4 months old (really good trade in deal and reduced price on the R, so too good to turn down) with only 3k on the clock. I have to say I'm still not sold on the colour but it is unique to Rs and the alloys are a bit retro but I forget all that when driving it. Amazing what a difference another 70bhp makes! Still haven't got the hang of always keeping it under control when accelerating at max from standstill and you really have to keep an eye on the rev counter as it's so easy to go into the red. Fantastic car, style, rarity, power and acceleration. Have had it nearly 5 years and kept the mileage down to 24k, which is probably why I'm having front brake issues with rust build up on the pistons as it needs to be driven. Anyway that's enough of my meanderings. I will try to make the rallies - we used to do that with our Marcos, so look forward to meeting members.

Nice story Pete.
I know what you mean about keeping the R within the redline, it's so easy to get carried away.
It is a beautiful car with very high credentials. So many people are missing out on the drivability of the RCZ and shame reliability of the brand seems to be the deciding factor, which is very maligned.
Having driven it hard in the Alps and on the autobahns, I can attest to it's capabilities.
It's a pity that all of the above is not reflected in the resale price of the car, I have even seen R's for less than 10k. I wonder just how far it will fall before it starts to appreciate if ever.
But I didn't buy it to keep my money safe, I've never let that side of things rule my head, for me it's the looks and the driving is a very welcome extra.
Cheers Mick....

I think you’ll find that colour is not exclusive to R’s....

But it is THE best colour the RCZ is available in :D

I’ve worked out why my car is so popular with the ladies, it’s because they can use any panel on it as a mirror to put
Their make up on

Hi DKZ

I said I would learn more about these cars! When I bought my R in Feb 2015 I'm sure the colour range for RCZs didn't include a red although there was a sort of orange/brown. Also I thought my red was called Moroccan Red but yesterday when trying to get touch up paint at the main dealer I was referred to a local auto paint retailer and told to ask for 'KJC Blood Red', which the main dealer got from looking up my VIN on their system. However when I was handed my touch up pot it is KJC but it says 'Rouge Erythree'. I'll be going back to them for an explanation on Monday.

Looking at your car it looks fantastic - is that a metallic red? Really like those alloys as well. What year is it?

I've sort of gone into hibernation with keeping up on RCZs as life got very complicated over the last 4 years with a serious illness, redundancy, employment tribunals (I won ;) etc. Crikey this has got a bit serious - I'll stop there but there's more!

So that is why I have fallen behind in what has happened in the latter years of RCZ production. Back to colour I've been contemplating whether to get my R wrapped as a way of changing the colour. Do I see Plecodoras has gone down that route? Apart from finding a good 'wrapper' (and the cash) I'm torn between pearlescent white as I really liked that colour or a non RCZ colour.

Next issue is to sort the front brakes - service last week said the pistons were too rusted to clean up and they are starting to seize. Have spoken to Alcon and then a specialist firm in the Midands (BG Development) run by a former Alcon person. They will manufacture stainless steel pistons, which should see the rust off compared with the current mild steel ones, so that an annual clean at servicing will keep everything ticking over.

I'll keep you all informed but would appreciate any experience based advice.

Kind regards

Bald Eagle

Thanks for that. Mine is Moroccan Red, 2013. I did think that there was only one red colour in the UK for the phase II RCZ’s, not sure what my paint code is, but I’ll have a look when I get chance.

I have recently had all the alloys re-cut and I am very pleased with the results.

There has been a thread or two regarding stainless steel brake pistons for the R on here. A search might reveal that.

I’m sure Mick will be along to talk about his wrap .........

And as if by magic.....

Yup mine is wrapped sure enough, but underneath it is Artic or Polar white, I forget which.
A good wrap is going to cost between 1500 for a plain flat colour then add a grand + for a fancy colour change, then off the scale for Chrome colour wraps.

Funny enough I have had my brakes and pads replaced on my R and if it wasn't for the discs been done on warranty, instead of the £310 I paid, it would have been £1810 absolutely crazy prices. For new original calipers add another £800.
If mine go again, and they will...
I'll be buying a complete set including braided hoses, stainless pistons, 8 pot calipers and split discs and bells so if I change car then all I need to do is get new bells and I can swap them over.
They are approx £1850 all in. Extra for the anodised look.

Back to the wrap and you could just get some decals or part wrap, to still give that extra pop !!

Don't forget to share your thoughts !!

Cheers Mick [THUMBS UP SIGN]
