I have an opportunity to buy a petrol 156 with 11k and replaced chain and tensioner.

How long do I expect this to last and are the new ones redesigned properly?

It's my understanding that the replacement tensioners are modified, so you shouldn't (in theory) have any further problems.

Hi, yes the tensioner has been redesigned, shorter and fatter I believe. I've had mine done and the Peugeot mechanic said it wouldn't need doing again!

I had mine changed in a main dealer 12 months ago. Somehow it was fitted incorrectly and it recently let me down.. All the symptoms of a coil pack failure. It was hard to diagnose and took months to finally get back to a badly fitted chain... I think the tensioner was not done up correctly. . All on warranty thank God. It felt wrong for weeks. Turns out "wrong"was the timing being out...It's fine now. Goes really well.
