Hello everyone,

I've joined the forum as I'm giving serious consideration to buying an RCZ. I've previously owned an Alfa GT Q2 with the 1.9 multijet turbo diesel engine. A beautiful car but the service from Alfa Romeo was less than my expectation. I also drive a Fiat Panda Cross 4x4 as my commuting car and general runabout. A sensible choice given the state of the back roads where I live.

I'm looking for a brisk, fluent drive that is more GT (Grand Touring) than a sports car (MX5 etc.) and am hoping the RCZ will fit the bill. I want the car for weekends and holidays. In terms of looks and style it has everything but have yet to test drive one. I have test driven an Audi TT 2.0fsi but was disturbed by how skittish it was when accelerating and the degree of torque steer. The Alfa, with its mechanical limited slip Q2 diff, had no symptoms of torque steer. I wonder how the RCZ copes?

Anyhow, enough for now. This seems a friendly forum and I look forward to reading everyone's experience, contributing, and hopefully making a positive decision to buy an RCZ.

Welcome to the forum :greetings-wavingblue:

I think once you've test driven one, you will be hooked. Someone on here who has actually got a RCZ (very few and far between at the moment) has already stated how the RCZ is not skittish like the TT, that they used to own.

Go on, you know it makes sense

Hi Paul - Welcome to the forum.

Interesting situation you are in, I would truely class the RCZ as a Grand tourer, it's a classy drive but has the push when you need it, I can't say I've experienced torque steer even under power, the car reminds me of my MR2 in the way it steers, hardly any body roll and the steering is very krisp, mine's a 156 GT so you get the added fuel return when motorway driving and around town as well.

Just a quick up-date, I've checked my trip computer and at the moment the car has an average a speed of 26mph with an average fuel consumption of 37 mpg, not bad for a car that's only done 500 miles from new - well pleased.

Overall I am very impressed with the car, I like the way it drives and feels, it certainly has the feel of a car you would have paid a lot more money for.

The only way to satisfy you need is to test drive one, once you do you will soon have your wallet open

RCZ1 and Rob,

many thanks for the welcome and the positive endorsements of the RCZ. I've now booked a test drive for Friday afternoon. I'm going to test the 200 GT initially as it's the demo car at the dealers. I have a very ambivalent feelings as to which engine. I've driven turbo diesels for a few years and wonder about going back to a smallish petrol engine. However, a few years ago I had an Audi A6 1.8 turbo petrol that was a nice drive. Moreover, both the 156 and 200 engines in the RCZ seem to have excellent economy. Not as good as a diesel but for the first time in my life I can choose to have a car as a bit of weekend and holiday fun so won't be ratcheting up a high annual mileage.

I have to say the RCZ looks stunning. One of the features I'm attracted to is the cockpit and rear three quarter views. They remind me very much of the VW Karmann Ghia coupe which I think is one of the all time beautiful designs. In fact before the RCZ came along I could have been tempted by a reconditioned Karmann Ghia!

After my test drive I'll report my feelings. In the meantime thank you for the warm welcome and I wish you many happy driving miles with your RCZ's.

Welcome Paul, looking forward to hearing your thoughts after the test drive.

As RCZ1 mentioned, heres one of our member's views after selling her TT (about half way down - Amber) - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=139&p=2159

Hi G81, thank you for the welcome and the link to Amber's comment. I agree that the TT felt skittish. On my test drive it felt as though it was scrabbling for grip and it unnerved me a little.

I'm very impressed with my first contact with the dealer and enjoyed looking around the RCZ. On paper it has everything I'm looking for and the fact that it is a Peugeout and not an Audi, BMW, Alfa etc. gives it that bit more cachet as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know if you or others have noticed but it seems that every other car on the road is an A4. It used to be a BMW 3 series a few years ago. I'm sure this is a reflection on the quality of the A4 and 3 series but I'm looking for something more distinctive and rarer.

I know what you mean about the rarity. I remember a Top Gear episode a few years ago when Clarkson reviewed the Mondeo saying the it was rarer than a 3 series (and that fewer ST220s had been sold than DB9s)

Hope the test drive goes OK and you find what you're after.
