Hi Matt :) just been reading through your "2 year service thread" its avoided me till now....cars..eh :eusa-think: your in a bit of grey area mate....rock in a hard place...blah de blah...you have opened Pandoras box mate by looking elsewhere...planet VXR,which has confused/complicated things somewhat..i went through a lot of hassle with my ST AND IT WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD...and it was all down to inadequacy/complacency mate by the dealership....Ford customer care where phoning twice a week it took me 3 months to get it all sorted...it can stress ye out mate  but i am a happy chappy with my car still...even though the passengers led door sill logo went Capoot last week for the 3rd time.. it will get fixed when it gets serviced in the next 3 weeks....Go with how you feel mate,i do....you and me where always uncomfortable with the 156 bhp...bide yer time mate...your next car will come...although april/may seem the best months to buy used cars.

The GTC VXR is a few rungs up the ladder mate from a compact RCZ coupe with just 156 bhp....with huge Power comes huge bills....

I agree with you Jassy...it's easy to be rash when you've fallen out of live with a motor. The right car will come along Rizz, maybe you just have to be a bit patient. Longer you leave it the more favourable a place you'll be financially. It's not the same as me where I kinda have to get rid of Amber now.

Far from minted Jass! If it wasn't for a substantial sub fae him indoors, I wouldn't have been able to afford it! If truth be told, Steve wanted me to have it as much as I wanted to have it myself. He saw my face drop with the initial figures! Did well to screw a deal out of them! Steve though it was the most fun car he'd ever driven....until he drove the "souped up beetle" ha ha.

"Beaker" will consist of Volcanic Yellow, black roof/mirrors, 17" Black Cosmos wheels, black bonnet stripes, chrome line interior, CHILI pack, MEDIA pack, Privacy Glass, Heated seats, Motor mirrors, HUD. Toying with the Harmon Karmon upgrade stereo......its gonna be a lonnnnnnnng couple of months!!

sorry for hijacking Rizz...........

Sadly it won't find me in a financially better place by holding off as the RCZ will cost me around £1200 bucks to keep on the road and serviced over the next 12 months. Not gonna see that money ever again. :(

Max, thank you for your advice. Nope, haven't done so yet. Actually have to buy a rubber hammer first!!

Close! 1 summer tyre and two changeovers, front brakes, road tax and next service. Having already paid out for one replacement tyre, a set of winters and three changeovers as well as the expected service and road tax, I've already paid out significantly more on this car than I'd anticipated! Add in the above saga and the precious one that I went through at the same time as your own with the last car (seriously our car fates are intertwined), I'm ready to call it a day!!

Just remember, come winter you will likely be looking at snow shoes again for a new car too unless its blessed with 4WD, similarly, with more power comes faster wear on brakes, tyres and more frequent servicing.

Also it would be worth looking at the actual warranty on a "nearly new" GTC VXR.

the terms do state that its " "Lifetime" for the first owner, up to 100,000 miles." How does that work on second hand cars?

Secondly, the servicing is going to be yearly or 20k whichever first but i'd expect you to be yearly. so no change from the RCZ there even though the service costs of the VXR will be higher.

You will get a bigger dealer network with the VXR though which would be a little less stress.

You wouldn't have the timing concerns like the 1.6THP but then the VXRs seem to be gobbling gearbox bearings so its not like you will be jumping into a car that will have guaranteed 100% reliability. Every brand has their fobiles. At least with the timing issues you can still drive it albeit limping. Maybe a case of better the devil you know?

260miles to a tank would be the killer for me though

I know where your coming from though. I've been there and had niggles with cars, thrown cash I probably shouldnt have at a car and then "lost the love" and got another one.

The crux is this though - the money I spent on the car was gone and neither would it be seen again nor would I get the enjoyment of my spending as I'd flogged the car on.
Secondly the replacement obviously needed some tinkering (as that's what we all love to do) so more money was spent basically doing what I'd done to the previous car but on another model

I guess its both the benefit and the curse of having a car that is not on a lease agreement... the mind can wander at any time  its dangerous!
