Memory Stick issue

Hi All,

I am the proud new owner of a 2013 RCZ THP and a rd5 stereo system with the USB port in the centre console.

I am using a 32GB USB memory stick with about 7gb of music on it and after about 20 minutes of initial loading, it played as normal.

However every time i turn off the car and back on it says "USB Peripheral Error" and i have to remove the memory stick and reinsert it, at which point it starts playing again fine.

What could be the problem with this? Its very annoying to have to re-plug the memory stick every time i start the car.

I am also considering replacing the head-unit with a new system, is it possible to retain all of the Bluetooth/trip computer integration or will i lose all of this?

I had the same problem with mine when I used a memory stick. I dont know how to fix it. I now use a 160gb ipod and it works fine.

Hrrm, just out of curiosity was it a USB3 memory stick and what size was it?

Im trying to figure out if perhaps its my memory stick specs.

Also can you control an ipod from the steering wheel controls or do you need to use the actual ipod?

USB needs to be 2.0 or lower and formatted in FAT/FAT 32. At least this is true for the original RCZ anyway.

Have you got another USB you can try?

I had that same error message on mine once or twice but that was with the same USB stick i always use. (DataTraveler 4GB, USB 2.0) Haven't had any errors now for a few months tho.

I have no idea, it was a cheap 2gb one.

You can change track etc from the steering wheel, and use the radio to select specific tracks for the ipod

I have now this same error after a year of no problems with my 16GB iPod nano and now all of a sudden it's started doing this. I have tried a different USB cable and tried it with my iPhone same problem. It's very strange and I can't figure out any way of resolving the issue. I have tried resetting both my iPod and phone and still same issue. I even tried turning the power over then killing it removing the key and repeating a few times as I know this can sometimes reset errors but still same issue. It's very strange as the port is delivering power cause both products are charging but it seems to be a communication error with the head unit.
I bet this is a return to manufacturer issue for which will cost a bomb and I bet won't be covered under warrantee
I'm sure you can tell I'm not happy.....

might be that the car's software needs updating in order for it to sync correctly with the cable. a visit to the dealer might help resolve this matter. i had trouble with my phone syncing to the car. it was hit or miss. took it to the dealer and they said the software was already up to date :shock: but whatever they did the problem is resolved and now the phone syncs with the car everytime. i know its not the same as your problem but it could be that your car needs a software upgrade.

I seem to recall somewhere that it will only play the first 999 songs, then it gets it's knickers in a twist.

Can't remember where I saw this.

I know there is a limit of 2000 entries on the usb stick for the total number of files + folders. I am running a 16b micro sd on my 2015 2.86 firmware without issue as long as I stay under the 2000 items limit.
