Either way its a great pic! Im trying to get the hang of the HDR toning on photoshop, but I cant seem to get it quite like your pic.

If you're interested, some background information about how this photo was done.

The reason the RCZ is parked at exactly this place is the white/grey wall in front of it (about 10 meters away), you can see its reflection in the front grille.
I had to wait about 30 minutes (in Sahara-like temperatures I have to say) until the (evening-) sun had the correct angle to reflect the light back to the car and light up the front, the locomotive and the wall to remove the harsh shadows.
That's what came out of the camera, almost what you see above.

Of course there's some editing involved (light up the background a bit, correct the lens distortion, crop it to what you see now, white balance), the usual things you do with a photo.

I would have preferred some white clouds in the sky because the blue reflections are a bit too much for my personal taste, but that's just the way it is. You can't change the sky

I have been taking photos of my RCZ everywhere and have not managed to get one that I think is worth submitting for the comp. I now know that it is because:

a. I do not plan ahead,
b. I do not arrange the car placement carefully enough,
c. I do not wait for the light to be right,
d. I do not do the lightening/darkening, white balance thing
e. I fail to notice the sky colour.

All I can conclude is that I do not deserve to take a great photo!!!!!

Perhaps I should try to paint a picture of the car instead of photographing it, as I do spend all that time and effort trying to get a painting right!

Actually when you gather experience over the years it becomes second nature to see photo opportunities, so you actually need LESS time to do halfway decent photos.
That's why digital photography is such a great learning tool, you can snap away all day without additional costs and learn much better (and faster) why certain photos work and others don't.

And even a painter has to wait until the light is right

I second that! Painters can do magic things no photographer will ever be able to capture.
