I had an R 6 years back and sold it. I’m buying it back from the guy I sold it to. It‘s just done 11.000 miles at this point. I’m looking to keep it for a longer time now, and am thinking about (preventive) maintenance and such.

I will order the stainless brake pistons and have that done soon. I’ve also found some cheapish original front brake discs and pads to keep in stock. But what about the timing chain… service interval is 10 years, which will be soon, but to replace it after 11.000 miles… are there any thoughts or best practises for this?

Same with the gearbox oil. Maybe it‘s wise to change it after 10 years, even at such low mileage?

Am I forgetting something?

Looking forward to being back on this forum, even if I was not really active before.

Timing chain replacement@10yrs with 11K miles; I would not be even considering it, even with the 10yr time frame. I have recently changed the chains on another car which was 22yrs old with 30K on it due to the age/or guide issues.....no wear, no deterioration of guides etc....piece of mind but nothing else gained. Most important just like the RCZ is an oil change annually (circa 1K miles) with a decent oil and don't thrash from cold.

No problem changing pistons but looked at mine recently and there were no issues (mine were warranty replaced calipers early in the cars life) I don't drive in Winter or the rain though, so I'm not bothering with that yet either.

Gearbox oil@11K again wouldn't bother....changed mine@32K miles.

I have a set of discs and pads, bought as they were 'relatively' cheap at the time of purchase@5K since purchasing the car I am nowhere near replacement.

Aux belt and AC recharge?...I purchased a new geniune rear brake light strip (can be repaired) in case of any issues.......had no issues.

I called a THP service company, they checked the car by VIN and said no interval is given by the manufacturer. They suggested to just drive with it and check for rattles each year or so. When I get the car back I will check the pistons, maybe they are still fine. The brake pads have never been replaced even... Just need to get some nice rubber slotted pucks to jack up the car safely.

I will do the annual oil/filter change off course. What about the spark plugs, do you change them every year (as per manufacturers interval), or just run with them for 5k miles or so?

As long as the car continues to brake well, you don't have to worry about the discs and pads, but you should replace the brake fluid.

Also change the engine coolant.

A lubricated chain does not degrade over time, it is not a rubber belt that does degrade
.
According to Peugeot, the oil in the manual gearbox never needs to be changed.
