London Holiday

Hi guys,
my mothers birthday was last week and I gave her a coupon for a holiday she wishes for. Because of the fact, that she is a good old british lady, she really wants to travel in London. But I'm living in Glasgow and don't know nice places there. I got some informations from different pages but I also want to ask you if you have some good advices or insider tips? Thanks a lot for your help

If you want to see the normal sights, get a tube ticket for all day, and a tube map !
Go to tower hill, you get to see the Tower of London and Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast all in one hit. Walk a bit and see the Monument (its like 3 or 4 mins walk) and if she likes posh shops there is a House of Fraser a few mins walk from the Monument. Get a tube to Charing Cross, then you can see Nelsons Column and walk up to Buckingham palace. Get over to leicester square and then you get China Town and Theater land.

I was there last August ..... things I'd recommend are.......

A show! "We saw We Will Rock You" and "Wicked" - been hearing a lot of good things about "Rock Of Ages"
Afternoon tea at the Dorchester - not so posh as the Ritz, still formal by men HAVE to wear ties in the Ritz
Jewellry shops in Bond Street - it is her birthday after all :eusa-whistle:
Harrods (Steve spend an entire afternoon looking at watches in there....yawn)...
The Comedy Store - best laugh I've had in ages - usually one famous person on most nights, our night was Andy Parsons
Ronny Scotts Jazz Club
Haagen Daaz restaurant in Leicester Square :D
London Eye/Thames Cruise
London Aquarium
London Bridge Experience/London Dungeon
Buckingham Palace/Changing of the Guards
A lot of the time we just wandered about - Buckingham Palace/Westminster/St James Park/Hyde Park are all walking distance.
(I'll probably think of some others........)

If you're going for any length of time, I'd buy a 7 day london Travel card for the Tubes, just a couple of days and an Oyster card may be enough.

Not too sure if this will be your only post this evening which I strongly disagree with. We love going into London, It has a great buzz about the place, with loads to do and see. Covent Garden is always worth a visit and too many others to mention. We find that we must go at least a couple of times a year and more if time allows.

Well as its "Mum" and I am sure she is not surprised by anything any more, then Soho during the day time maybe a bit of a giggle, they have a street market (fruit and veg, if I recall) maybe you can find more sensible venues diring the evening. Please remember London is a 24hr a day place, and I bet Mum is NOT.

Have FUN

Speaking of markets, Camden Market is good on a Sunday and a little barge cruise down through 'Little Venice' is lovely on a nice day.

Greenwich is worth visiting. Fortnum & Masons rather than Harrods is the best "posh" shop (and just down the road from "Tea at the Ritz". A bit further out, Kew Gardens is lovely in spring (could make a day of it and go by boat), Hampstead Heath gives the best views of London but depends on how up for walking your old mum is. Also take the south bank from Westminster to Tower Bridge (it's half the length of the north bank). St Stephen's Tavern is a really nice pub opposite Big Ben. Best meal is Lebanese, in Maroush Gardens on Edgware Road (tube stop Marble Arch). Avoid Leicester Square, waste of time unless you want to get a meal in Chinatown. Best art galleries are Tate Modern and the Wallace Collection. Windsor is a day away by train. Go East for something different: Brick Lane (The Shampan does the best curry) or even Stratford Westfield shopping and a view of the Olympic Park.

Have an idea why don't you hire a RCZ for her for the day and let her enjoy herself, she might just show you a thing or two LOL
