London Car

Hello,

My name is Lee, I am very close to buying an RCZ 200 GT, I have been lurking on the forum for a little while and thought it was time to introduce myself and ask a few questions. Btw, the comments and replies I have read here only persuade me further that this is the right car for me.

The RCZ will be my second car to use in less busier parts of London, for fun only. I work from home so this car will be purely for leisure.
My first car is a fully restored 1967 Mustang coupe which I keep at my parents outside of London, I visit her regularly, I have attached a photo, I hope you can see it. So, my second car needs to be enjoyable and fun too.

I have a few questions, I hope you can help me out;

1. Reliability: I haven't owned a Peugeot so wondered how the RCZ holds up with general use, are there any issues that stand out?

2. I am thinking of either a black or silver RCZ. If I buy the silver, I will change the roof arches to matt black. Which way is best - wrapping or dipping? If wrapping, where is the best place to buy this? I have found out about the plasti dip but not so much on the wrap.
Also, I would like to change the wheels to black, probably the Peugeot ones with the machined, like in the banner. Or I could just dip them. Any advice on best way to go? If I get new wheels, I am thinking I will ask Peugeot to fit these when I buy a used one from them.

I think that's all for now, thanks in advance.

Lee

I normally start my response to new members with a, "welcome to the forum etc", however, I am simply in complete awe of your '67 Mustang!! That is a truly breathtaking true classic and one of my absolute fantasy cars!! Any chance you could possibly share some more images of it or direct me to somewhere that perhaps already houses more info and images!!

Secondly, your chosen second car is arguably a modern classic, (I'd argue with anyone who disagrees.

Right, to answer your questions, there are a few known faults that the RCZ can suffer from but they're not really major problems. There has been a tendency for some owners to discover timing chain issues but this is easily replaced if discovered. Another known fault tends to be with the temp sensor, again, this can easily be replaced. The third "issue" (and the one that I'd be most wary of) is to do with the jacking points which are really rather weak. A number of owners have encountered issues with these either themselves or when getting tyres changed by tyre fitters and dealerships etc. I would be sure to crawl below and check these.

Second set of questions; no two ways about this, I would ONLY wrap the arches. I'd look for 3M wrap and this can easily be sourced on eBay.

Last set; I'm assuming your referring to the diamond cut onyx black solstice wheels? They're lovely but are a pain to get refurbed on account that they require specialist lathes to recut them and this generally becomes a process that takes several days, although I'm sure that there will be more choice down your way. Also, on cleaning them, be sure to use a PH neutral wheel cleaner. Diamond cut and acid cleaners are not a good combo!! Personally, depending on the wheels, I'd possibly get them powder coated black instead. Depends on budget and preference really.

Looking forward to finding out more about the Mustang and hearing what you decide for the RCZ.

Oh...and welcome to the forum!!

Hi mrizzle, thank you for the reply and the welcome. Glad you like my car, I really missing driving her when I am down here in London. I did get to drive it a lot over Christmas though. I've put a few more photos below.

Those issues don't seem too bad, I can handle that. The car will be parked in the street so I don't want to be doing too much work out there.
Do you take the arches off for wrapping? I am thinking no from what I have read here, although it seems difficult to tuck it under the seal.

With the wheels, after reading you reply, I will go with something different. As I said, I want to make things easy for myself with the car being on the street.

I will probably go for a black GT200, I prefer the darker, more menacing look. I am not finding the right one at any local dealers though, they are all 100+ miles away.

The arches are held on by bolts and clips.

No experience with wrapping personally, but I would expect you'll get best results if you remove them to do it.

Had to have a new windscreen a few months ago, I was surprised they had to take my car to bits to fit it, the photo shows the clips with the arches removed. (Mine are already mat black).

Thought this might be of use if you go ahead and remove yours.....
