LED Sidelight bulbs

Looks like you are right, I just had a look at mine and a couple of the leds are dead, judging by your experience paying more does'nt guarantee longer life, I think I'll go back to the standard bulbs until I get a recommendation from someone

It sounds like dry joints. Can you access the connections inside the assembly? I presume the LEDs are soldered to a PCB. LEDs rarely fail so I suspect vibration is the cause of your failures. If so they were probably badly soldered in the first place.

Hi, yeah the new law is confusing..hers a simple link
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... eId=809953

Spoke with a mate who is a policeman. basically

DLR' s are for daytime use only
If used at night must be dimmed (the old 1987 act being replaced indicated to 10 or 20% of normal power) . Undimmed LEDS at night are illegal as they do not protect other drivers (as normal lights behind lenses to direct the beam do). Hence why on modern cars when the headlights come on the LEDS dim or switch off.

Thanks for the clarification Adrian.............so looking at the earlier postings, one seems to suggest that the DLRs switch off on the RCZ when you put the headlights on ?? If thats right then LEDs are safe (legal) to fit no??

not sure as havent got my car yet (2 more weeks ) but as the DLR's are not LED on the RCZ that they just dim to sidelights or switch off...The law is around LED DLR's ... ANyone know what happens to the DLR when headlights come on (i.e. either dim or switch off) or are they just standard sidelight bulbs ???

Whatever the production DLR's wont be a problem as they would have needed to pass the homologation testing to be able to be sold in the UK :)

the drl bulb in rcz are a twin filament bulb, 21w is the drl and 5w is the sidelight. When you turn the headlights on the 21w drl filament is turned off and the 5w sidelight one turned on
