HI Vass,

He showed me the wiring leading back to the fuse box, (top right hand side under the bonnet). He then fed it through a pre-drilled hole (with rubber grommet) and I believe connected it the ignition live, however, they also fitted a relay switch so that when sidelights or main headlights switched on then the DRL's turn off.
Sorry - not much of a mechanic/electrician so cannot help any more.

Cool Bradders, I might hook them up and place the lights temporarily and take some photos to see what/where looks best.
will let you know how I get on

Cheers!

RCZGT200 quoted: Several of the car's functions are also accessed via the menus accesed via the radio (follow you home headlights, Drl's etc etc)

Can people in possession of their cars (lucky sods! ) tell me if this is through a standard radio or only the upgrade version? I'm particularly interested in the DRLs.

Thanks

I have a Gt with STD radio. Through the config menu (accessed through controls on the stereo) you can set lighting configuration, DRLs, etc

haven't tried playing with any of these settings yet so don't know what they all do (can have a play tonight and post what I find)

Hi Vass,

I agree that is the best way, trial out differnt styles / locations and see what you like best before committing to it permanently.
As you have seen from earlier posts - DRLs are not to everyone's taste, but hey 'if we were all the same life would be boring'!
Let me know how you get on, thanks.

Hi BangorRCZ,

Yes, standard radio can be used for selecting the DRL function. Basically, you select 'menu' on the stereo, brings up a few options, you can follow instructions in car manual handbook, but it is pretty self explanatory. One of the options is the 'Daylight Running Lights Function' where you can select them ON or OFF. Note, the function doesn't operate until you switch off the engine/igintion power and then put it back on again. I have added additional DRLs. The basis function fitted operates the sidelights so they are either on 'bright' during the day, and then immediately switch to a 'dim' mode when you switch on your main headlights. However the standard sidelight bulbs are not LED and therefore compared to the Xneon lights that I added to my car looked too 'yellow' for my liking. Against standard headlights probably not as noticable, but depends if you care or not! Each to their own!
Hope this helps!

that looks nice I like them I wonder if they could be vertically mounted rather than horizontally mounted I think that would look cool

Hi Mate,

Yes, I agree I think that would look cool, unfortunately without drilling significantly into the bumper there was no easy way to achieve this which is why I went with mine horizontal, but I'm sure that in capable hands it could be done and made to look good!

Hi Maf and Bradders. :greetings-wavingblue: Thanks guys for your info. I haven't got the car yet nor have I ordered the vision pack so my lights will be standard but I agree that the ones Bradders has added are nice. I've looked at some on ebay and the same ones in Halfords where they are a small string of around 6 bulbs which would probably be LED so I've got something to think about now :eusa-think:

On the DLR's. Very nice - but i have finally opted to use the standard as set on the car by setting up on the Radio/Display through Configurations etc.
Still look good.

There are day running lights on the RCZ as standard!! You need to go into the computer and select them :)

An easy way to wire additional DRL LED strips would be to simply tap into the wiring for the standard DRL bulbs. The fitted DRL bulbs have two filaments - bright for daylight and dim for night time. Pick the wire for the brighter daylight filament. That way the LED strips will be lit in daylight but when your headlights are switched on the LEDs will switch off automatically. If you wanted to keep the DRL LED wiring separate then use the standard DRL bright filament wire to drive a relay.

The ultimate DRL solution would be to have them inside the headlight unit, as Audi does.
I presume that could become a popular tuning item...
I've switched off DRL (they were switched on when I got it) as it is not mandatory in the Netherlands and the car is already flashy enough as it is, so I see no reason for wearing out the lights!...
