Didn't know that it's a common problem. It is not very expensive, though?

Not a common issue, so far as I know, but has been reported - I think - by one or two posters here.

Personally, a 'warranty' claim might be difficult, depending upon what's in writing.

You may be better off thinking in terms of the Sale of Goods an Services Act - 1974 (as amended), but even here you would have to do a bit of research to build a case and a structured argument for some form of compensation or rectification. Being second hand goods makes it harder and whether this defect can be considered as just 'cosmetic' or illegal, i.e. it's a legal requirement to have a complete set working, not just 80-90%. A question to an MOT test station might clarify that.

Anyway, approach the seller in a reasonable way and see what there response is.

Like Pete said, straight back to dealer, if you have only recently bought it you should have some kind of warranty from them, and it probably would be an MOT failure.
So as mentioned, sale of goods act - has to be fit for purpose, but in any case, they will probably do the right thing, as they will be hoping you are going to use them for servicing (not!) :eusa-think:
