Leaving the fold.... again

Well after 13 months and 25,000 miles its time to say goodbye to the RCZ for a while.

Been a pleasure as always but I really need something with back seats for convenience and also on the odd occasion when iwhen I have had to take folk with me to meetings etc getting a third person in is neigh on impossible  but everyone insists on me taking the car - such is the lure of our favourite pug!

Will this be the end of the RCZ journey? No of course not! Debbie has a Dacia Stepway at the moment but if get the "Sensible" car then in a couple of years (and hopefully RCZ MK3) then we will be able to justify getting her one as a run around without limiting our ability to carry things, people, dogs etc.

We were down in Stirling over valentines and test drove a few cars - Insignia Elite, A4 all that boring stuff then I spotted a nearly new MG6 Magnette in the new MG showroom. Being an MG nut I had to have a look in!

Its strange but very much reminds me of how I felt testing the RCZ against the offerings from VW and Audi. Better to drive than an A4, Absolutely jam packed with kit - even more so than my RCZ GT! Refridgerator, Reversing cameras, Keyless startup etc and some nifty little features like black instrument clusters ( I hate the pug orange!), a nice sporty dial sweep on start up, fully customizable welcome on the integrated satnav (upload your own wallpaper startup)

Driving it the differences between it and the RCZ are not that different either. Its a really comfortable ride but so taut in corners in a way that the A4 and Insignia were oblivious to.

Only 160 Bhp from the 1800 Turbo but it still cracks 60 in about 8 seconds so its not a slouch.

Oh and a sunroof! very 1990's but I love them!

in the end we agreed a deal that sees me hand over the RCZ and drive away in a two year newer car with only 4,000 miles on the clock and a hefty wedge of green in my back pocket.

it was a great deal but greatly helped by the MG6's initial depreciation. 45% retained value in 3 years.

Overall i would say for anyone in Scotland... Buy your pug down south.. in 25,000 miles driving I traded it in for only £1200 less than I paid for it.

This does mean that I took off the Ruffer Exhaust / rear valance though... so it will be going up for grabs soon!

Not quite as glorious as the Pug.. but still a solid looker... and doesn't have those silly pepper twist alloys.

OH FIT!!!????????????????????????

(And for you none-NEsters amongst us ...I'm not exclaiming 'Tidy' etc etc ... but 'wtf'!!!)

Oh man, I can't believe the MGs pull you as much as the arseCZ. It must be good!

It'll certainly be noticeable though ... can't say I've seen another one ... hope there's not a reason for it.

When do you get it? Looking forward to the photos. What kinda mpg do you get? I know nothing about these, I have to admit.....

The one on the promo pic looks a lot like a Saab. The only thing I know about MG's is that you needed to know a good head gasket supplier, but I guess they will have sorted that by now. :eusa-think:

I've done many a head gasket on MGs haha. Interested to see how the engine has improved since GM and SAIC have been pumping money in. They are only really in the UK to develop their cars and badge them as "British Engineering" for eastern markets as they are gobbling them up over there.

The engine is the same basic principle as the ones you used to get in the ZT etc but without BMW pushing for cost reduction the new owners redeveloped it and changed the materials to eliminate the problems of old. It's actually Quite sad when you read the history of Rover and BMW especially in regards to the new mini.

My previous car to the RCZ was a 1.8 MG ZS. Loved it and the head gasket lasted well over 100k miles. Had it from new for 9.5 years, most reliable car I've ever owned if you work it out on a problem per year basis. Wheel bearings were it's only significant weakness, over a 2 year period 3 out of 4 went at £200+ each.

Enjoy your new purchase, it sounds like a cracking car

My last Pug was a 405. That went through more wheel bearings than the Z goes through tanks of petrol :eusa-whistle:

(Well you know what I mean)

Ah, the ol' K-series. yes. I came one one of the 'Z' cars - a 160T ZT in my car.
Great car, and lots of parts bin BMW in there.
I have one HGF at about 24K and another replacement (before it went) at about 60K. Aside from a replacement cooling fan (which involved me and a mate removing pretty much everything front of the engine to replace), it was pretty much fault free life.
In the end (after 10yrs ownership) the odd electrical niggle and admiring glaces at RCZ's meant it had to go.
Great technical support from the 2 main Rover/MG forums probably extended its life by a few years. Really helpful guys.

At the moment it has M66 TSE

For MG6 then the trim level TSE... It was the showroom car so came with that plate. F7GOS is on retention so it might end up on there!

You now full well I'd have another RCZ in a minute. Not that I don't enjoy the S...but it just lacks that head turning looks :( no-one looks twice at the MINI ......
