K&N fitting to HDI

Hi

Just received my K&N replacement filter for my RCZ 2014 HDI.

After reading previous posts about the box being located at rear of engine and difficult to get to with a special tool required to remove the screws, I just want to make sure I have fitted it correctly.

The box in my engine is located at the front RHS and 4 screws were removed with a normal star screw driver.
The box came off easy and old filter removed. I noticed that the old filter is much thicker and has foam stuck to the bottom of the filter. The K&N is thinner. I take it the foam does not require to be fitted in the box prior to placing the K&N into the box?

If someone could confirm this prior to me driving the RCZ to my dreaded night shift tonight.

Cheers

Re: K&N fitting to HDI

Sounds like you have done everything right - I did exactly the same, was also surprised at the difference in bulk between the original fit and the K&N, but have been driving around for a month or two without any issues - in fact, I put off buying the filter for quite a while thinking of how skinned my knuckles would be, before realising the air box in the HDi is in a much more accessible position !

You did it right. The paper one needs more surface area to let the air through, hence why its thicker. The k&n is more pourus so doesnt need to be as thick. The foam just collects bigger bits of crap to make the paper filter last longer.

Cheers chaps for your reply.

Hopefully I will find a little difference to the performance.
