Just checking the correct oil for a 156

I'm not wonderfully impressed by the way that all the Peugeot handbooks never make any reference to the RCZ so just wanted to check that I wasn't misreading the information before topping up the oil levels. I read it as requiring 5w/30 fully synthetic oil. I got Shell's reduced pollutant version as I figured that'd do the same job as the listed Total one. So...is this right before I top up?

So why didn't you simply buy the one mentioned in the book?

Thanks guys. Ron I am away for a few days r&r with Mrs R and the engine oil level seems to have dropped massively in the last couple of days and so had to buy it from a petrol station. It's not at the minimum level but it's not far off and I was wary of letting it drop too much lower.

Thanks Hanswuk, I'm sure that that's what I opted for. I'll double check it.

Jass, I prefer using baby oil for more sensual purposes. ;):D

Take a tip from an old fart. Have a litre of the correct oil in your spare wheel well. It will avoid having to purchase the wrong oil and ensure that you do not need to mix oils when caught out by not checking your fluid levels before leaving on a long journey.

Your right of course Ron. I had taken my eye off the ball on this occasion. However, I did a cheeky Google to check up on the fuel and it's a premium grade fuel that actually exceeds industry standards across the board and is recommended by manufactures such as Mercedes-Benz and Porsche so I knew I was picking a top quality product. The price reflected that! :-o Still it isn't something I'd want to skimp on.

Still not advisable to mix oils. Be careful with your high performing engine as they will have very tight tolerances. Enjoy your R&R

Thanks Ron...I plan to! In case it is of interest this is the one that I plumped for.

Allegedly it'll also improve my fuel consumption by 2.2%.

I may have got this wrong but I thought it was only mixing oils such as fully synthetic with part synthetic that was what was truly unadvisable...? I don't profess to be an expert on this though!

Now I'm certainly no expert on engine oils, baby oil is another matter and for another day :eusa-whistle:

Anyway back to the engine stuff, Ron has a diesel and you Rizzo have a petrol, so shouldn't you be using a different oil to each other anyway.

Mixing brands should not be a problem. Mixing types of oil is.

PS. Is it just me that thinks I've strayed onto an Alfa Romeo forum every time I see the title of this thread?
