Just a question or two.....

Hi everyone,

I have only joined tonight as I want to ask a couple of questions about the RCZ. I am considering getting a 2010 1.6 automatic. Probably a bit behind the times with everyone else on here who appears to be getting the new R version. I have always liked the look of the car and whilst I would love to splash out on a newer model, I think I will start off small and see how I go. I have been very happy with my two Hyundai Coupes for the last 10 years so it is a big step for me.

I have been looking at pros and cons and overall I think the pros always come out on top. However a couple of the cons do concern me. I sat in the car today and I immediately saw what a few other people were talking about when they say you cant really see the front of the car! I am not small at 5ft 7" but I struggling to see where the bonnet ended. Is this something you get used to? I don't care about the shortage of space in the back as I rarely take people in my Coupe as space is limited there too.

Is this Torque Steer thing a major problem? Reading about the car veering off to wherever is a little scary I have to admit but does this only happen if you are really bombing along? I'm no Driving Miss Daisy but neither am I Sterling Moss. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I do really want to go for it but I guess I just need a little reassurance from fellow RCZ drivers.

Torque steer, my car generally only ever sees the speed limit twice on a journey, once on the way up & once on the way back down, & I can't say I have ever had much of a problem with torque steer. It is noticeable at times, but certainly manageable. You will get to know when it's likely to be felt & it's easily controlled.

I have front & back sensors, so I can't say I really notice any problem but if the model you have tried doesn't have front sensors, I can see that you would have to take a bit more care when parking, but it is definitely not something that would put me off the car if they were missing.

I do think you will struggle to get an unbiased opinion on here, but you will get honest answers to straight questions, & if I had any regrets about buying mine, I wouldn't have a problem telling you.

This is the best car I have ever had, by far. If I could afford an R it would be on my drive tomorrow.

I don't think you will regret buying a Z, if you like the looks, you will love the performance and handling. There are a few common faults, but to be honest show me a car that doesn't have the occasional issue.

I have never bought the same car twice in a row, but if it was purely my decision, my next car would be a Z for sure.

I'm over 6ft and still can't see the bonnet. Mind you the last 5 cars I've had all were espaces so the slope of the windscreen carried to the bonnet so couldn't see it then either. You just get use to it.
Never experienced torque steer or if I have it was handled without any trouble and I carried on as "normal" and put it down to a quirk of the car.
Of the earlier models there is also a 200 bhp version but only comes in manual.
All the versions are very capable, but as you have probably guessed the 156 is the only automatic.

You only get torque steer in the R due to the large amount of power it has.

I'm a woman, 5ft 8, I have my seat in the highest setting and I still can't see the bonnet. It's something you get used to and you will be able to judge the distance after a while. You may be better going for a model with front parking sensors, if you are concerned. I'm on my third RCZ and never had them as I can see and judge what I'm doing ahead.

Lets us all know what you decide!

Firstly I will echo the comments from RCZ1, I think you'll only get torque steer on the R version. If you are also getting an auto i can't imagine this would be a problem. I've an R and to be honest I think the torque steer quite frankly adds to the fun!

I'm 6ft tall, and I can't remember ever having a car I could see the end of the bonnet, sometimes I have been able to see some of the bonnet but never the end, so without realising it Elaine you probably always use your judgement anyway, so don't let this put you off a fantastic car.

Lets face it boys and girls, this car is stunning and I couldn't think of another car in the same price bracket that delivers such a sense of occasion. Also you don't see that many about.......

Thank you to everyone who has given me their advice. I think the car only has rear parking sensors but I prefer to reverse park anyway so really the front unseen bonnet shouldn't be a problem.

I'm waiting for the car to arrive at my local dealership so I can test drive it but I think I will definitely be purchasing it after hearing all the good comments.

Hi and welcome to the forum the RCZ is a great car one of which I'm sure you will fall in love with! The only thing I would advise to check before purchase especially if it's a 2010 model is to see if it's had the timing chain replaced and the updated chain tensioner fitted. It's a common problem and a design flaw and would say that sooner or later it will need doing at a cost of between £500-£900. If it's been done then that's a bonus if not I would budget for it,mileage is irrelevant as some cars have had it done at as little as 10K miles. Had mine done at 17K.
When you test drive the car make sure the engine is cold first start the car and listen to the engine outside of the car if there is a problem there will be a rattle from the top of the engine which may quieten as the engine warms up slightly Rev the engine to see if the rattle increases (if it is rattling).
If everything seems fine I would see what kind of warranty your been offered and decide from there.

Hi Elaine and welcome to the forum. :thumbup:

Don't worry about torque steer - you only get that with the 270BHP 'R' because it's such a beast! :twisted:

Also don't stress about the length of the bonnet and not being able to see where it ends. Actually if you look in the rear view mirror you can't see the back end of the car either! It's something you will just get used to in time.

One thing you will hopefully never get used to though is the huge grin that appears on your face every time you drive an RCZ!
