Journey to Buy in NI

Hi all, from a hopeful soon to be RCZ owner! I've been lurking on the forum since Summer and have finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it although I've run into a snag I'm having trouble deciding what to go for! So I thought that I'd chance my arm on here. Mainly wondering whether I should be looking at getting a petrol or diesel engine.

Choices are limited over here in Northern Ireland but I've found that once an RCZ has over 65K miles on it suddenly there are no more petrol's for sale only diesel's. This is true for both MK 1 and MK 2 RCZ's.
I'm not sure how much life the 1.6 engine has left in it after the 65K mark I've tried researching this but honestly there is no solid information to go on so this has me sceptical about getting a petrol.

I have a few test drives booked in before the new year to test both out, sadly 200THP's are few and far between and the R may as well just be a fever dream out here!

I'll keep the thread updated with the journey hopefully it can help another potential owner get their hands on one of these beauties!

Would really apricate any advice you might have and thanks in advance!

There are two really affordable Rs in the UK on auto trader. You could easily import it to NI?

Personally I'd recommend the R but I am biased!

Depends on the driving you do and how many miles as to what suits but... the R is the most powerful AND fuel efficient of all the petrols...

I too am biased towards the R, but can sing the praises of all the RCZ's...

As for the mileage, that is a strange one, I have seen a petrol with 225,000 miles on the clock, maybe that after the 65k miles you claim, that they are all working like a dream and no-one wants to part with one ( unlikely - but never know ! ).

The diesel probably has the most reliable of engines, but does need a burn out now and again to help keep clear the EGR valve problems.

No car out there exists which doesn't have problems though the RCZ's problems have been highly publicised none more so than on here. Older ones should have had all the bad bits corrected and running well. Have a thorough test drive and check all the cars history, past MOT's etc. Be your own detective, you are there so take your time and have a good look at everything, don't be afraid to ask.

Watch out for warranties as most aren't worth the paper they are written on, regardless of what MR Dealer ( I have to sell this car no matter what ) says.

Which ever you choose you will be like the joker, you will have a smile from ear to ear !!

Have fun and keep us informed, search the forum as there are plenty of buying tips on other threads, which highlight what to look out for.... At the end of the day, it's what you want that will decide and we don't know if you're a Sunday driver tootling along or if you drive like you belong on the Nurburgring !!

There are loads of petrol RCZ’s for sale over here that have 80K-90K and are running great so maybe by that mileage the usual problem components have been changed or remedied.
You don’t here as many problems with the diesel admittedly so if you don’t have a preference a diesel may be the way to go :eusa-think:
Anyway as with any vehicle purchase don’t rush and find the right car for you, it’s so easy with the sexy RCZ to buy the first car you see as they’re all gorgeous :dance:
