Has anyone compared the standard stereo to the jbl. If so, is it any good?

Yes. I have. I borrowed a dealer principals car for a weekend, that was fitted with the JBL. Mine has the standard. I live for my music and just love a quality sound. All my sound systems indoors are Bose. So I do know a good sound when I hear it. I couldn't tell any difference between the systems. I have ordered a replacement for my current RCZ and the JBL is the only extra that I have not ordered. Nothing to do with price. Had I rated it, I would have ordered the upgrade. I think that the standard system is of a good quality. Hope that this diatribe is helpful to you ch00ppm.

I 100% totaly agree.
The standard system is excellent . I have the NG4 media system, but with the standard speakers so i'm not sure if this improves the sound as the NG4 does have some very good features to alter the sound, but at the end of the day they are just the standard speakers.

I did have a demo car with the JBL upgrade and i just could not hear a difference, especially a £620 difference.
YOU COULD SPEND YOUR MONEY ON A FAR BETTER OPTIONAL EXTRA.

too be honest the speakers in standard are really good as it is I have one with the standard stereo system as well (no sat nav) and you do have tons of options on the sound as well if you have a completely stock system.

They are one of the best speaker systems I have heard I have listen to cars speaker systems on cars that cost over £100,000 sound worse than the stock system in the peugeot.

I found the stock light and tinny compared to the JBL. Coming from a Bose system in my 998 I guess my ears were more attuned. The JBL certainly has better base with the woofers and the sound is less strained as the amp is able to drive the speakers more easily.

Sorry disagree, in fact i found that the base was awsome, even before i played around with features. Turning on the "loud" feature made an hell of a difference to the base.
However i'm not sure if this is because i have the NG4 media center and not the standard cd player. Also i believe that the NG4 has a graphic equaliser feature, don't know if the standard audio equipment has this ?

I have the NG4 with JBL. I listened to standard and JBL side by side and in my opinion the JBL blew away the base system. The sound filled the car with far more depth and presence. It was enough for me to fork out the extra money for it. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the base system, in fact I found the quality was pretty amazing, it was just the extra presence of the JBL was unmistakeable.

Beyond that it is purely personal interpretation.

Be interesting to understand what genre of music you guys are listening too. That will help determine which advice to follow

My choice of listening is very eclectic. Varies with my mood, between Rock, heavy metal, to classical and opera with a tad of pop thrown in just for good measure. I didn't mention in original reply (cos I didn't consider it) that I too have the sat nav so maybe as mentioned it may not be the bog standard system. But it is good

Similar tastes here! Everything from War of the World to Eminem! What I found with the JBL was the bass presence on things like Eminem rapping had loads of depth without having to crank it up. Listening to stuff like Noah and the Whale it felt like being in the studio at low volume levels. This is where having tuned speakers and high output amps makes a real difference over the standard fit. Acoustically I found it more pleasing than the standard system.

As I have said a lot of it is down to individual interpretation and can be very subjective especially if you have not come from a high end audio background. If you have been driving a Fiesta with basic ford stereo the standard fit in the RCV is like the Albert hall. If you have come from Bose or Harmon Kardon etc then it sounds ok but not outstanding. The JBL just improves on what is already a high end system.

I'm used to Harmon Kardon system and to be honest I wouldn't say there was a great deal of difference between that and the standard system in the RCZ. I too have a very varied taste in music and I'm more than happy that I didn't part with money for the JBL system.

I am more than happy I did part with the extra for the JBL. So thats a 50/50 split. Who is right? Like I said it's a very subjective thing. My advice is listen to the same track back to back in both systems and then decide. It's what I did......

Ordered the JBL and think it's awesome! The back window vibrates sometimes when its up loud, which could be a bit concerning!!! It really depends what music you like. I am happy and at the end of day, if your happy, wooooohooooooo! :D ENJOY

I ordered my Mecury Grey last week WITHOUT the jbl as I don't think it wasn't an obvious winner within this forum.

Does anyone have any more Jbl vs non jbl views and does anyone know if you can add it in after you've had delivery of the car?

I haven't heard the standard system so can't compare, but the JBL system is awesome. I listen to mostly DnB, Dubstep, Hip-Hop, Rap - so music with heavy basslines. Even at full volume, the JBL system doesn't distort. I found it superior to the Dynaudio system I had in my Scirocco and I really can't imagine the standard set up is as good. I suppose music choice, and how loud you like your music (I like it LOUD! :D ) makes a difference.

Totally worth it to me. Came standard on my 207, new 207s here are no longer equipped with premium audio, not even as an option. There's a BIG difference between JBL audio and standard, at least on the 207.

The reaction from my friends with the standard speaker setup was "have you got a sub in here" no complaints about it from me.
