Hey all,
I’ve had this RCZ for a while. I’m struggling to make a decision because I’ve really enjoyed being its keeper. I’d like some views from others as it’s a head vs heart situation.
Earlier this year - I had the rocker cover changed as it was leaking oil. Subsequently, the engine management light came on with a P0016 code on my OBD reader. I’ve changed the camshaft sensor myself, but even after an ECU reset, the error persists so likely mechanical. It had its timing chain replaced ~25,000 miles ago, so I’m not keen on another replacement if that is what it needs (I know they’re sensitive to this).
The local garage I had the work done at says it’s because of the O2 sensor but I’m not sure I trust that. It does still drive well despite the engine light - and no knocking or weird rumbles when idle. Ive used it for another few thousand miles without issue. But that engine management light means it won’t pass its MOT in a few months time unless I address it.
It’s also got some other gremlins:
* The air conditioning does not blow cold air despite the compressor and a temperature sensor being replaced and the lines checked for leaks. The garage thinks it’s a sensor issue.
* The engine bay smells of faintly of exhaust when idle, which gets sucked into the cabin. The cause has not been determined yet.
* All four tyres are likely due for replacement soon.
* One of the parking sensors broke on the back, which has conked out the entire system. May be a cheap fix - have not looked at this further.
It doesn’t seem economical to keep it whilst it needs all this work (these only go for a few thousand in good condition and low mileage, never mind one that is now above 100,000 with issues) - but I’m struggling to part with it because it means I wouldn’t have a car I have drive for pleasure for a few years as I’ll likely just use my partner’s Toyota.
Another part of me wants to keep it despite everything. I like that they are an unusual car, and despite it not being the spriteliest or most dynamic - I found mine quite fun to drive and it has a lot of modern conveniences which have made long journeys quite bearable (heated leather memory seats, pleasant cabin, etc).
So - grateful for advice from others who’ve been in a similar situation where they’ve had to make a decision to keep or part from a vehicle they are fond of.
1. Keep it? Bin it?
2. If keep it, suggestions on next steps?
3. If bin it, best way to do so? WBAC? Private sale? Scrap?
