Is it really worth it ?

Hi all

I,ve been considering getting a DA polisher for several weeks now and listened to other users comments on this forum regarding this. I,ve also watched the Junkman videos on YouTube (what great viewing) with keen interest. All the information, advice and tips has left me confused!

Once all the swirl marks and imperfections have been removed and a quality wax applied then in theory there should be no more need for further polishing so here's the question. Is it really worth the £100-£150 that I would have to spend to set myself up fr something that I may not need to use on a regular basis?

Obviously, I am aware of the extra effort involved with polishing by hand but can I justify buying a polisher ?

Please help :eusa-think:

Speaking as a person who neither has a DA or intents getting one. Once you have as you say removed all of the swirls and imperfections you will possibly not need the DA for a while. however you will use it again as you will impart more swirls during your normal washing regime. You will want to repolish throughout the course of the year and you will want to remove winter contaminants.

I bet you have a drill and sander in your shed don't ya? How often do you get them out? :eusa-think:

Of course only you have all the facts and can make that decision. For me I decided against it because I keep my cars in general in a good condition from day one, so the odd polishing job here or there can be easily done by hand.

And, if I REALLY should need one, they can be rented for a weekend for a couple Eurobucks (over here most hardware stores offer this option).

Another valid point. I too generally keep my car in good condition. I watched a Gtechniq video on their website regarding their P1 nano composite polish which was demonstrated by hand and looked very impressive

To my mind, it is worth it. Like Ron said, how often do you use that sander in your shed? You can sand by hand can't you but how long does that take compared to using an electric sander and the results are probably better by machine. It's the same with a DA. The machine works faster. It oscillates far quicker therefore it produces far better results than it does doing it by hand. The shine is far deeper by machine. You will use it at least twice a year and if you scratch your car, it's worth it's weight in gold to remove them.

Gtechniq P1 is very good to use by hand but to fully work the polish is hard work but it is one of the better polishes to use by hand.

I did P1 by hand before using C1 really good results, but it took me 3.5 hours to do whole car and my fingers where stiff for a week after.
