I got my 14 plate RCZ in February and immediately had a major problem with the thermostat and heater matrix. This was partly covered on warranty, but still cost me and meant I didn’t start driving the car properly until early March. I then found a problem with the driver’s power seat which meant it moved under its own accord when driving - a problem that still hasn’t been resolved despite having a new switch fitted at an independent Peugeot specialist ( I am now driving around with the fuse removed to stop the seat moving).

Then came lockdown and working from home, which meant I have only been driving my RCZ once or twice a week and because of all the problems I have had with it I hadn’t really gelled with the car and had a bit of a downer on it. But I have the car booked in for a major service with the Peugeot dealer this week and have asked them to look at the seat.

But another irritating problem I have been having was with something sliding around in the car under rapid cornering, acceleration and braking. It was still there even after I took everything out of the dash box, door pockets etc and was really starting to annoy me. I had concluded that the ‘thing’ was sliding around inside the centre console somewhere and started looking to see how I could remove the gearstick gator to have a look inside. I was also debating if I wanted to spend more £££ with the Peugeot dealer and get them to look at what was sliding around. Then today I went out with my wife on a rare longish journey in the RCZ and because the seat isn’t able to move at the moment I was really liking the way it went etc, apart from the bloody thing sliding around in the centre console area. When we got home, I was just looking to see how the centre console was screwed in and I found, for the first time, the ashtray under the radio! I took this out and in it I found.... two sets of earrings and a hair clip that presumably belonged to the previous owner- suddenly I have solved my irritating problem of something sliding about! Now I’ve just got to get the seat fixed....

If Les is having the earings, I’ll take the hair clip 👍

Hope the bill doesn’t turn out to be a William.

Update on my seat issues. Long story, but highlights are:
  • Bought car in February 2020, after various other problems got solved, had issue with driver’s power seat moving on its own whilst driving - it would go backwards in short increments, meaning had to constantly reset it.
  • Put the problem in the technical forum here - lots of views but 0 replies
  • The movement got really bad and dangerous, so in June I put it into a local Peugeot independent who diagnosed either faulty switch or faulty control unit. Went with switch replacement first as cheapest option. Had to wait 4 weeks for switch to arrive from France and cost me c. £200 fitted.
  • Seat ok for a few drives, then had car cleaned by car cleaning place. They moved seat and hoovered under it. I reset the seat using the preset position and the seat started having the same problem again, only now it moved forward in increments instead of backwards!
  • One night driving it felt like the seat really had a life of its own and I kept ending up pressed against the steering wheel with the seat right forward!
  • So I looked online and found out what fuse was for power to the drivers seat. I then removed fuse once seat in position I wanted. Only issue with this is seat has to be able to be adjusted for MOT and can’t easily move the seat on the rare occasions my wife drives car
  • As per original post above, this week asked Peugeot franchise dealer to look at seat when they did service. So before it went into service I put the seat fuse back in and went for a drive. After a while the usual forward seat moving started, which I welcomed as it would mean the garage would experience it
  • Car collected by garage and taken in for service. When it was delivered back I was told by delivery driver that they had tested the seat electrics, etc and couldn’t find anything wrong! I asked the guy who collected and delivered car back if it had moved on him (I had pre-warned him this might happen when he collected car) and he said it hadn’t and hadn’t for technician when he drove the car when testing it. Upside was I wasn’t charged 1 hour’s labour that I would have been if they had diagnosed a problem
  • I have now driven the car a couple of times since and the seat hasn’t moved!
  • My assumption now is that the issue is due to a faulty connection somewhere which was improved when the new switch put in and again when the Peugeot garage plugged everything back together when testing the seat electricals . When the car cleaners hoovered under the seat, they may have the nudged faulty connection causing the problem to reoccur.
  • I am now hoping the problem is resolved, but if it starts doing it again I’ll take the fuse out and only put it back in when it gets MOT’d (hoping seat doesn’t move during MOT test!).
